From the Prinicpal's Desk

A Great Start, Cadets!

We had a great first full week of school, and I am really proud of our students! They are adjusting well to our phone-free school day, and teachers are already sharing that they are seeing more engagement and participation in their classrooms. Thank you, families, for helping us reinforce this expectation at home. Your support makes a difference!

Attendance continues to be an important focus for us because students need to be here to learn, connect, and be part of our school community. Our attendance rate this week was 91.1%. Our goal is 94%, so we still have some work to do—but I know we can get there together. If getting to school regularly or on time is a challenge for your student, please reach out to their counselor or administrator. We are here to help, and we will work with you to identify barriers and put supports in place.

We are off to a strong start, and I’m excited about the year ahead. Keep showing up, Cadets, and make each day count!

Hello Parents/Guardians -

Please read this message carefully in regards to the family life unit for health 1 and health 2, for term 1 and term 2. There is only 1 parent preview per semester. If your child has health now or will have health term 2, this parent preview is your opportunity to view the instructional material.

We hope you are doing well! We will soon begin a unit in the health education curriculum entitled Family Life. To assist you in making a decision about your child’s participation in this unit, we will be holding a Virtual Parent Preview through Google Meet on Thursday, September 24th from 9:15-10:00am During this time, we will preview the instructional materials that will be used during this unit. To access the Virtual Parent Preview, you will need to log into Google Meet with your student’s FCPS username and password.

The Google Meet Code is: https://meet.google.com/xur-sdgi-twk

Or dial: ‪(US) +1 240-609-0385

If you cannot attend the Google Meet, but wish to preview the instructional materials, please contact your student’s health teacher via email:

  • Kyle Dinterman
  • John Bodnar
  • Coach Garner
  • Jason Shipley
  • Elizabeth Crouse

As always, we support you as the primary educator of your child with regard to sexual health. There is an opt out/exclusion form for any parent/guardian who DOES NOT want their child participating in this unit. If you want your child EXCLUDED from this instruction, you must email your child’s teacher. No email is needed if you want your child to participate in this unit.

Any student who has been excused from this unit of instruction will be provided with an independent alternative health education activity. Students will also receive a packet on menstruation. The length of time spent on the alternate lessons will be the same number of days as will be spent on the unit. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
