Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday April 16, 2026
Good afternoon, Glenwood families!
April is moving quickly, and this week’s weather has given us a welcome preview of the summer ahead. It was a joy to welcome so many Special Friends into our classrooms. It meant a great deal to our students to share their learning and school experiences with them. We hope our visitors enjoyed their time in our classrooms and the opportunity to be part of our school community. Our students are fortunate to have such supportive and engaged families. Events like these are what makes Glenwood a special place. As we progress towards the school year finish line, please be sure to take advantage of the great events and activities at both Glenwood and across the district.
Please see some of the upcoming Happenings below.
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal
Tomorrow: Wear Glenwood GREEN!

Third Grade News
Third grade was delighted to welcome our special friends this week! They quickly became enthusiastic partners in learning as students interviewed them and created Venn diagrams to compare what school was like in the past with what it is like today.
We have also wrapped up our Native Americans unit. Throughout this study, students learned about the first Americans and how their food, housing, and ways of life were shaped by the climate and environment around them. We also explored how these adaptations influenced and helped define their cultural identities. We are proud of all the thoughtful learning and look forward to building on this knowledge in the weeks ahead.

It’s STEM/Makerspace Time in the Library!
All students will be exploring aspects of STEM in the library.
Kindergarten through Third will be exploring challenges using library provided materials.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Families ~ Students will need to find items at home to use for their projects.
Please do not go out/online and buy things. The challenge for 4th & 5th grade is to be creative when looking for materials. Repurpose, reuse, create! I will provide a pizza box for all fourth graders. Fifth graders need shoe boxes!
Let’s get building!
Cereal and Kindness Chain Reaction
Glenwood students have big hearts, and we’re ready to make a big impact! Help us knock down hunger by donating boxes of cereal to Glenwood Elementary School’s Cereal and Kindness Chain Reaction. Our goal is to collect 1,400 boxes of cereal to donate to local food banks. Each box represents an act of kindness that will help families in our community. To celebrate reaching our goal, we will create a giant domino chain with the cereal boxes and knock them down so our students can watch a powerful chain reaction of kindness in action! You can help by sending in unopened boxes of cereal with your child. If it’s easier, you can also ship cereal boxes directly to the school through this Amazon link. Together, let’s start a chain reaction of kindness and help knock down hunger!
Glenwood Book Swap
Are you doing a Spring Cleaning?
Do you have lots of gently read children’s books that you no longer use?
Consider donating them to Glenwood’s Book Swap!
Students will be participating in a book swap later this year and we need books!
Please send in any gently used elementary school appropriate books to Glenwood’s library!
Volunteers will also be needed to help run the swap.
Dates and more info to come soon!
Glenwood Spotlight
JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS
Each week we will highlight anyone who has exemplified qualities similar to our Philly mascots, possessing the following:
GRITTY (Flyers Ice Hockey) Resilient with a ‘never give up’ attitude
FRANKLIN (76er's Basketball): Loyal friend
SWOOP (Eagles Football): Strong and determined
LOYAL FRIENDS
A small group of PM K students worked together to create a flower garden. Students selected the height of the stems, color schemes of the flowers, and garden design. These LOYAL FRIENDS encouraged and supported each other. They brainstormed ideas together and congratulated each other when their garden was complete. The best part - these LOYAL FRIENDS asked to borrow Mrs. Harkness' camera and took their own group selfie with their garden to remember their accomplishment!
TEAM
Kindergarten discussed our TEAM theme through the perspective of the honeybee! Our CKLA Knowledge lesson taught our Kindergarten students about the jobs of the honeybee, the importance of pollination and the impact honeybees have on our daily lives. We learned that it takes determined bees to work together as a TEAM to build a beehive. Then, we had fun checking out the beauty of their teamwork up close!
