Week of December 8th

Dear Duval Families-

Second Week of December and another busy one!

Last week, we had a blast with a day enjoying the silly side of life while mixing in lots of learning. 6-7 Day saw kids doing math problems, writing activities, scavenger hunts, word searches, and whole school voting (combining math and civics). While we expect this was a one time event, we are both pleased how the day turned out!

The annual Holiday Shop begins Monday and goes until Friday. Cards for Community is ongoing in classrooms. The Mitten Tree is still accepting donations of scarves, hats, and hand wear. The Brain Show is Friday Night and we hope to see many families there.

Our author visit from Peter Reynolds had to be shifted to next week, Thursday the 18th, which is also 70's Day. Signed books are still available at the link below.

Please see note below about dressing for recess. We go out every day unless it is raining or below 20° (regardless of wind chill). Students MUST have coats. Please email Dr. M or Ms. Craig if you need help!

Have a good week!

Safety Notes

- It is definitely Winter in New England. And we are proud Whitmanites who aren't afraid of a little cold or snow. To that end, we go outside for recess EVERY day unless it is below 20° or it is raining. Students MUST come to school prepared to go outside which includes a winter coat, and gloves, hat and boots on really cold or snowy days. Kids MUST have boots to play IN the snow. Please email Dr. M or Ms. C if you need help getting winter gear.

- Traffic around Duval is ONE WAY. Toward South Ave both in front and behind the school. There is NO PASSING during Drop Off or Pick Up.

- There is also no public access behind the building during school hours. Even if the cones aren't up, please don't drive around the building 9:20am-3pm.

- Please don't rely on a phone call or email during the day for dismissal changes. Unless it is an emergency, please send a note.

Lost and Found

Yikes!! SOOO many items! All will be donated if not retrieved by next Friday.

Electronic Device Clarification

Even after last week's note here, we had more violations of our electronic use policy last week.

There is to be NO texting, videotaping, audio recording, or game playing on watches, phones, or any other electronic device brought from home during school. Students may not text home, and adults may not text students from 9-3:15 daily. E-devices will be confiscated and will have to be picked up from the office. In urgent situations, students may always ask their teacher or Dr. M/Ms. C for an exception.

PTO NEWS!

Hi Duval Families!

It’s Holiday Shop week! Our PTO elves and helpers were at Duval setting up the shop and we are SO excited about this year’s offerings. Students will all have an opportunity to come down this week with their class to shop. All items are $1 and payment can be sent via cash, check or Venmo- please put student’s name and teacher in the comments. Make sure to check the schedule to see when your student shops and please help them prepare a list. Lots of classes come down tomorrow!

We received our first Raise Right gift card order and cards have already been sent home. This order brought over $200 back to Duval! We will place one FINAL order Friday 12/12 and those cards will be in before break. Place your order for the easiest holiday shopping (or shopping for you!) that you’ll ever do.

We have several other important dates this week as well. Please see dates and flyers below for more info on our December PTO meeting, Brain Show evening family event and our Food Drive. If you’re not currently following the Duval PTO Facebook page please join us as it’s the easiest place to get updates in real time- https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1a2aDR9mMx/?mibextid=WC7FNe

We also had a very successful partnership this with Deag’s. Duval raised $300 and so many families found a new favorite local spot! Thank you to Deag’s and to our Duval families and staff for making this event so successful. Stay tuned for our next local partnership happening in the new year!

We are always available for any questions or to provide more info at duvalpto@gmail.com.
