“Empowering Students of the World, for the World”
February 14, 2025
Remember you always have a choice, so CHOOSE KINDNESS!
There is NO SCHOOL next week for Winter Break.
A Note from the Office:
There is NO SCHOOL next week for Winter Break. Have fun and be safe.
Kindergarten Registration is coming up soon. It opens February 24th. Visit our Kindergarten Registration page for more information.
Students had a busy week- the 5th graders had field work at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute and all students participated in Maker Space activities in the library this past week.
Also remember to Mark Your Calendars for the March 4th– School Budget Presentation. The Board of Public Education held a Public Forum on Feb. 4 to hear the community's priorities for the 2025-2026 budget as the superintendent prepares to present his FY26 budget proposal to the Board on March 4.
If you missed this event, you can watch the forum on YouTube.
“Black History Month: Connecting Through Art.”
The Make It Happen program invites All students in grade 6 through 8 to create original art through the month of February.
PTO News
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, February 25th, at 5:30 pm on zoom. Mark your calendars! We have that family dance party coming up - we will have a date for that soon.
Kindergarten Registration Opens Soon
If your child is currently enrolled in the Portland Public Schools in one of our pre-kindergarten (4-year-old) classrooms, it is not necessary for you to re-enroll your child in kindergarten. Your child's enrollment will automatically "roll up" to your neighborhood kindergarten elementary school, according to your primary home address.
Visit our Kindergarten Registration page for more information.
EECS PTO
We hope you are healthy and doing well. We have a few things to let you know.
First, and this is a fun one, we have been offered FREE tickets to see Frog & Toad at the Merrill for anyone who wants them! The show is on Sunday, March 23rd at 3 pm and you can see all the details HERE. This is generously provided by a grant from Portland Public Schools and there is a fun catch - you have to invite a family from our community who is not currently part of the PTO, in an effort to get them more involved.
Also, PTO's next meeting is on Tuesday, February 25th, at 5:30 pm on zoom.
Please visit our PTO website HERE to get a feel for what we do and what we hope to do this year. We are a group of parents working to support the kids and staff at EECS in every way we can. We did a lot of great stuff last year, and we'd like to do it again this year. We need a lot of help with this!
You can you make RECURRING DONATIONS to our PTO? (Please click HERE). This helps us do more - we have big plans to send these kids on field trips, fund swim lessons, and have even more community and cultural events! Help us make them happen!
Meet the Board Members HERE.
Sharon McGauley, President
Jessica MilNeil and Elizabeth Atterbury, Co-Vice Presidents
Kris Knight, Secretary
Mike Dixon, Treasurer
