Around the School Spotlight
Back to School Night was a success! Thank you to ALL of our families who made time in their evening to be here. We know there’s a lot going on right now outside of school so we are grateful you were able to join us. Below are a few pictures from the event!
During prior years, a portion of our Back to School Night included information from the teacher about our adopted curriculum. Linked here is a newsletter with that information for all elementary students.
In addition to reviewing the curriculum newsletter, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few moments to fill out this brief survey regarding the format of this year’s Back to School Night. Your feedback will allow us to build on what went well and help us fine tune areas for the future.
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 26th
Dorian Studio will be here on Tuesday, September 26th to take student pictures. Please see the flyer for information on ordering online, as well as a few helpful tips to make picture day great. Picture envelopes should have come home via backpack mail this week, but we do have a few extra envelopes in the office if needed. Picture retakes are scheduled for early November.
Attendance
Attendance is very important to the success of our students! Attending school regularly, and on time, is a key component to learning growth. Linked here is a flyer with great information and tips about attendance for elementary students (it is from 2021 so COVID information is noted). Some of those tips include...
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
We are always willing to partner with you. If we can ever help with attendance or on time arrival to school, please just let us know.
Reminder - Apply today for Free & Reduced Meal Eligibility!
We would like to remind our families that carryover Meal Program Eligibility from School Year 2022-2023 will expire on October 12th.
Please note that if your students' eligibility expires and we do not receive a new application, meals will be charged at the paid rate beginning on October 12th.
If you would like to confirm your eligibility for meals at no cost for School Year 2023-2024, please contact nutrition@sherwood.k12.or.us.

Fun Run!
The Hawks View Fun Run will take place on Friday, September 29 and includes our PreK-5th grade students. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we appreciate your support! Envelopes and PledgeStar information were sent home last week in backpacks. Families are invited to attend and cheer on their child(ren) from the perimeter of the track. Volunteers will be helping inside the track. We will have several check in tables down on the field. Parents should visit one of the tables to sign in and receive a visitor/volunteer sticker. We are looking forward to this fun event! Class running times are here.
Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Wear layers, no open toe shoes, etc. Don’t forget sunscreen and water bottles!
For more information, watch our Fun Run video! Check out the Fun Run prizes here!
Apparel
New apparel is now available for pre-order! The new tie-dye design is a hit! Also new are full length zip ups! Pre-orders available through September 29th - please expect 3 weeks for delivery (roughly October 20th). Click on the link below to order.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OPTIONAL) Parent Meeting
Interested in learning more about how Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) works? Think you might want to coach a team for your student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade? Feel free to join us for a short informational parent meeting on Monday, October 9th starting at 2:30 in Mrs. Conrad’s room (Room #36). Kids are welcome to attend if it is more convenient. We’re looking forward to kicking off another fantastic year of OBOB at Hawks View!

District Calendar Update
This year, all Sherwood elementary schools will have three half days for students. Two of these days will be for teacher professional development, and the third will be for the last day of school.
The release time for all three half days will be 11 am. No lunch will be served on those days. Earlier in the year we sent district messaging that the release time would be 11:15 am on these days, so we wanted to share this update right away so families can plan accordingly.
Our three days that will end at 11 am are:
November 1st
April 10th
June 12th
This information will be updated on the district calendar soon, and reminders will be sent to families as each day gets closer.
