Riverbend Families,

Please Vote on April 7th:

As we look toward the upcoming vote on April 7, I want to share how Proposition S specifically invests in our students. The most significant piece of Proposition S is the construction of a brand-new, $38 million energy-efficient middle school. This facility will serve all 7th and 8th-grade students in the district, providing a 21st-century learning environment that the current 73-year-old Pacific Intermediate simply cannot provide.

The new building will feature:

  • Modern classrooms designed for collaborative learning

  • A dedicated storm shelter for maximum student safety

  • Two gym spaces, a large weight room and band room to accommodate the variety of students participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

  • Up-to-date infrastructure that avoids the costly repairs needed at our aging facilities

  • The expected construction time is two years

Facility updates for Riverbend Middle:

  • Drainage downspouts and concrete at cafeteria canopy

  • Upgraded fire panel and voice evacuation system

  • Parking resurface and drainage installation

  • LED lighting upgrades

Finally, the safety of our students remains our top priority. Prop S will fund the installation of keyless entry systems and new security cameras throughout the district, ensuring a more secure environment for our entire school community.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding Prop S information and don’t forget to vote on April 7th.

Sincerely,

Todd Dempsey, Principal

MAP Testing is Here!

Starting the week of April 13th-17th, many of our students will participate in the Missouri Assessment Program Grade-Level Assessments. During this week, students will be following their Trimester 2 class schedule. This is so students who completed a “B” section of a tested subject during Trimester 2 may complete the test with their content area teachers. Designed to measure academic progress and proficiency, these standardized assessments are administered to students in grades 3-8. Students in grades 3-8 participate in assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in 5th and 8th grade will be assessed in Science. The Grade-Level Assessments evaluate student progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. Missouri Learning Standards define the knowledge and skills students need in each grade level and course for success in college, careers, and other post-secondary training. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do. Find more information about the standards at https://dese.mo.gov/college-career-readiness/curriculum/missouri-learning-standards.

The results of the Grade-Level Assessments are used to identify areas of strength and growth for each student, and provide information to help guide the instruction and curriculum in classrooms. In addition, the results are used to create a school and district accountability report published by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The district will notify parents when Individual Student Reports are available in the fall.

The MVR-III School District strives to provide students with the best possible educational experience. The Grade-Level Assessments provide an important snapshot of each student's academic progress and can help inform our instruction.

To help your student prepare for state assessments:

  • Encourage students to read daily. Assessments contain a variety of text including short stories, poems, dialogues, magazine articles, charts, and tables.

  • Teach your student that visuals are part of the text. Students are often required to gather information from photos, captions, drawings, charts, and graphs. You can help by teaching your student to look at all of these materials as part of the total text.

  • Show the work. Encourage students to use specific details from the text to explain their answers.

  • Answer every part of the question. Teacher your student to slow down and ensure they have answered all parts of a multi-step question.

  • Prepare students for the testing day. Be aware of the testing schedule and be certain that your student has had adequate rest – this may mean getting them used to an earlier bedtime before the week of testing.

  • Avoid scheduling appointments during days your student is scheduled to test.

  • Remind your student to take their time and put forth their best effort on the test.

  • Remember that Riverbend offers free breakfast for all students. Please encourage your student to take advantage of this before they begin testing.

Please take a moment to ensure your child’s immunization records are up to date. Our school nurse is reviewing records, and any missing or updated vaccinations need to be submitted as soon as possible.

How to Update:

  • Contact your child’s healthcare provider for any necessary immunizations.
  • Request an updated shot record.
  • Submit a copy to the school nurse via email, fax, or by sending it with your student.

Keeping immunization records current helps protect the health and safety of all students and staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse’s office.
