Active Gamecocks – Get Moving, Gamecocks!

H.E. Corley students are invited to participate in Active Gamecocks, a program sponsored by University of South Carolina Athletics that encourages students in grades K–8 to stay active and healthy. The goal of the program is to help students build healthy habits while having fun through physical activity.

Students are encouraged to log physical activity completed outside of school for two weeks, with a goal of 400 total minutes (about 30 minutes per day). Activities can include things like playing outside, riding a bike, practicing a sport, dancing, or going for a walk with family.

Students who reach the 400-minute goal will receive a voucher for two tickets (one for the student and one for a guardian) to attend a Gamecock softball or baseball game this spring!⚾🥎

Important Dates:

  • Feb. 16–27: Record physical activity on the Active Log

  • March 2: Turn in activity logs to classroom teacher

  • March 20: Final deadline to return activity logs

  • Late March: Ticket vouchers sent home

  • April/May: Enjoy a Gamecock baseball or softball game!

We hope your family will join us in this fun and healthy challenge. For questions, please contact Ms. Hilts, H.E. Corley’s Physical Education teacher, at gchilts@lexrich5.org

Habit 6 - Synergize. Together is better.

Synergy is valuing differences and then working together to create a better solution than what anyone could do alone. When we focus on each other's strengths and begin working or playing as a team, we can be unstoppable.

Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much!”.

What can you do to teach your child to Synergize at home?

1. Talk about three things you are really good at. Then, compliment someone else on something they are good at doing.

2. Watch your favorite sports team play a game. Pay extra attention to how all the players work together as a team.

3. Talk about what makes a bad team member and what makes a good team member.

4. Call two friends and play a board game or a basketball game together.

Students in Mrs. Martin's class were synergizing during our game in PE game. They worked together to achieve a common goal and succeed together as a group.
