Freshmen Present Models in Global Studies
Ninth grade global studies students presented to their classmates about iconic architectural monuments from the Egyptian, Greek and Roman golden ages. These presentations focused on enduring issues connected to their monuments. The students researched and discussed how the environment is impacting these monuments, developing innovative solutions to solve the environmental issues threatening these marvels.
The students also created models of their chosen monuments and presented them to the class as part of the project. They were resourceful during this process and showcased models made from a variety of materials, such as cardboard, clay, wood and drywall. Some of the models were even 3D printed! Overall, the students gained valuable insights from the project and were able to demonstrate their skills.
P-TECH Students Present to Board of Education
The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Cooperative Board recognized the P-TECH program during its January meeting. Two P-TECH students, Addyson Carrier, a senior from Holland Patent Central School District, and Chelsy Plows, a junior from New York Mills Union Free School District, shared their experiences and spoke on behalf of the program.
The students discussed how they discovered the P-TECH program, what interested them about it and how it felt to join the program. They also discussed the vast opportunities granted to them through the program, as well as their experiences being high school students on a college campus. After each student spoke, they answered questions from the Board. Thank you Addyson and Chelsy for representing the program so well!

Mistake Tracker Contest
This year, Mrs. Colantuoni's classes created a "mistake tracker" competition. For every mistake a student found, they earned a point for their class and colored in a picture on their tracker. The first class to fill in their tracker won the contest, with the second period geometry class winning. Since this is a morning class, the students got individual bagel orders from Willie's Bagels to celebrate!
Mrs. Colantuoni uses this contest as a tool in the classroom. When students find mistakes, it reinforces their understanding of the content. She helps them apply critical thinking skills to understand the error and arrive at the correct solution. This also supports them in developing a growth mindset because they learn to see mistakes as a natural part of the learning process.
