Homework is assigned every Monday and due back on Fridays.

Reading-

What will we be learning this week? What will we be learning this week?

Reading

  • Next week, we will continue reading Amos & Boris. Students will:

    • Take part in a Socratic Seminar discussing how artists explore the sea.
    • Complete a Writing Planner to prepare for writing a paragraph about a central message from the text or illustrations.
    • Practice identifying and forming possessives with singular nouns (with support).

In addition, students will be taking the Fall MAP assessment this week.

What is MAP Testing? MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) is an assessment students take three times a year in reading and math. It is adaptive, meaning the questions get easier or harder depending on each student’s responses. This helps show what your child already knows and what they are ready to learn next.

Why is it helpful? MAP testing gives teachers detailed information to guide instruction and set personalized goals. For students, it helps track growth over time and celebrate progress throughout the year.

Math

Math in the Real World

Students are becoming “math detectives” by asking their own questions, collecting information, and using graphs, charts, and observations to find answers. This helps them connect math to everyday life—whether it’s planning a party, tracking weather, or comparing sports scores.

How You Can Help at Home:

  • Practice quick addition and subtraction facts during everyday activities (grocery shopping, cooking, travel times).

  • Encourage your child to explain how they solved a problem, not just give the answer.

  • Look for real-life opportunities to make and read simple graphs together.

Science/Social Studies

Every 6 weeks we will switch between Science and Social Study standards. We will continue this week with science learning about Fossils!

Reading Specialist

Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.

3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
