Greetings, Warrior Families -
We are moving into the final month of 2022. Fall activities have wrapped up and our winter activities are beginning. We journey into the holiday concert time of year and encourage you all to check out those performances. For a listing of all our Warrior activities, please check out the metro calendar for WHS with this link: https://www.metroconferencesd.org/public/genie/61/school/2/
This first week in December we will be celebrating Academic Letter. Students will be celebrated in award ceremonies on Tuesday - Thursday during the week of December 5th. Academic Letters are awarded to students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher for 2 consecutive semesters. When we conclude our celebrations on Thursday, we will have recognized over 400 students in grades 10 - 12. Congratulations to all!
The Holiday break will start on Thursday, December 22. There will be regular school days thru Wednesday, December 21. There will be no school December 22 - January 2, 2023. School will resume at 8:15 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. There will only be 6 regular school days in January before we reach semester tests. Please encourage your student to stay on top of their assignments between now and the end of the semester. Teachers will be working with students to ensure they have mastered content in preparation for the semester tests, January 11-12, 2023. Please login to Infinite Campus with your student and review his/her grades. Set a time each week with your child to review grades and assignments. Students have time each school day during Warrior Halftime to work with teachers. They can also make arrangements to come in before and after school to work with teachers. As parents, you all have access to your student’s grades through the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus. If you are unable to log in, you can contact the school office to have your password reset. In the meantime, your student can also always log in and show you where they are in their classes.
We know entering into the holiday season many families experience joy and excitement, and yet there are also increased moments of stress and anxiety. If you have questions or concerns about your student, we encourage you to reach out to your student’s school counselor. You can contact them via email or call the school at 605.367.7970.
We are grateful for all you do as parents to support your student in his or her academic journey here at WHS. Blessings to you and yours this holiday season.

Attention Parents!
FREE Online Tutoring for SD Students
The Dakota Dreams Online Tutoring Program is now offering free online tutoring to K-12 students who need help with homework. The virtual one-on-one tutoring sessions are delivered through a secure online platform. Parents will need to register their student to use the platform. Once registered, sessions can either be pre-scheduled or on-demand, depending on tutor availability. This opportunity is provided by the SD Board of Regents with federal funds available to the SD Department of Education through the American Rescue Plan.
Junior and senior students with a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher (not rounded) at the end of the first semester should be receiving an invitation to apply for the WHS Chapter of National Honor Society at the end of January/beginning of February. Please contact Mrs. Britt Samson with any questions.
WHS Coir Concerts
WHS Choir will have 2 major events in December. The Winter Concert will be held on Dec 12th at 7:00pm. All alumni will be invited to the stage to join in the Hallelujah Chorus at the end of the concert. The show choirs will give their first public performance at Taste of Show on Dec 17th at 6:00pm. A meal with Chris's Cakes will follow in the commons. Tickets for the show are $5 and $10 for the dinner. Tickets can be bought from any show choir member or at the door. Hope to see you there!
Winter Formal
Winter Formal will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 8-11 p.m. At Winter Formal we will allow WHS students to bring one non WHS student as their guest. In order to allow guests to the dance, we require that all students bringing an outside guest fill out the Washington High School Dance Guest form. This form requires a parent signature and information from the guest's school that they attend. It is available to pick up in Student Services and will be due on Tuesday, November 22 before the Thanksgiving Break. This is a hard deadline and no forms will be accepted after that day. Any questions, please email me at kristy.van-meeteren@k12.sd.us
