Fostering a Culture of Literacy~

Strong Reading communities continually commit to collectively providing many opportunities for students to read. Celebrating reading across Saxe in the month of March will aim to rejuvenate the 'joie de vivre' or zest for pleasure reading by inspiring renewed momentum to grow as readers into year's end. Take a look below at some of the events going on around Saxe during the month of March.

March Book Madness

A spin off from the College Basketball Tournament. Students can enter their votes for their favorite book. Staff at the library will compile the results for the start of a 64 book competition. All month stats will be compiled and revealed with a bulletin board outside of the main office and updates are given over the morning announcements. Don't miss the opportunity to get your students excited, and voting! Voting will take place in Language Arts classes across grade levels. Stay tuned for weekly reports and bulletin board posts for the March Book Madness results!

Did you know? Did you know?

"The average person can read 1,500-4,500 words with just 15 to 25 minutes of reading each day. That translates to more than a million words per year. If kids read more than a million words per year, they can see as much as an 85 percent gain in vocabulary."
