June was a Bittersweet Month at the NRESC

June always brings a range of emotions, whether it is pure joy or sadness for the end of a school year, the beginning of summer, or new beginnings from graduation. It is also a time for reflection regarding what we have done and hope to accomplish.

For the NRESC, the 2024-2025 school year has been bittersweet, as we continue to offer exceptional solutions to specific educational challenges while having to say goodbye to long-time programs and amazing staff members. While we added four (4) new school districts and charter schools to the NRESC family, established sixteen (16) new service contracts with existing or new members of the NRESC, opened up Ramapo Avenue Learning Center, expanded before and after care services into Woodland Park, added a new summer school program in Saddle Brook, expanded therapeutic services, added our first two (2) buses, started a recreation program for children and adults with special needs, and established our therapy dog program, we also said goodbye to Hope Academy after nearly 20 years of amazing educational services to the students of the Passaic City Schools.

For the students of the Commission, whether you attend one of our schools or programs, or you receive a wide array of potential services (busing, technology support, related services, etc.), thank you for letting us support your needs! We hope that we served you well!

Have a great summer and see you in September!

Onward!!!

Congrats to the Class of 2025!

It was a remarkable yet bittersweet evening as we hosted the final graduation ceremony at Hope Academy on June 23. The NRESC is privileged to have operated this program for nearly 20 years. Although Hope is closing, the NRESC remains committed to virtual & twilight programs for partner districts throughout the region.

Jeremy Paulino: An Unsung Hero from Hope

At the June 23 graduation, Jeremy Paulino was chosen as the student speaker and he knocked his speech out of the park! Not only did Jeremey inspire so many in the crowd, but he is also headed to Felician University in the Fall AND was named a Passaic County Unsung Hero this past Spring! #ForeverHope

Thank You to Our Special Guests!

Although the graduates and their families were the guests of honor at the final Hope graduation and the staff of Hope Academy were the reason for nearly 20 years of success, we cannot thank the following special guests enough for sharing this special and final graduation with us: Benjie Wimberly, New Jersey State Senator (District 35);

Orlando Cruz, Passaic County Commissioner; and, Kesha Drakeford, Interim Executive County Superintendent of Schools for Passaic

Pearl is Reporting for Duty in the Fall!

Pearl is starting to look and act quite grown up these days. She weighs 6lbs 5.8oz now. She's starting to develop a cheerful, social personality. Right around now, she is starting to recognize different people and is responding to belly rubs and cuddle time. We are ecstatic for Pearl to join our team in the Fall!

New Color Scheme & New Logo Focus on the Way!

Not since 2016, when the Passaic County Educational Services Commission (PCESC) rebranded itself as the Northern Region Educational Services Commission (NRESC), will there be such BIG changes! There will be a new (yet similar) color scheme and an updated logo with more emphasis on the "NR" than the "ESC." Unfortunately, this is just a TEASER.....you will have to wait until September for the new colors and logo(s)!

Phoenix Phlowers!

This spring, Phoenix students had the exciting opportunity to plant sunflower seeds in the classroom as part of a hands-on science and nature lesson. They carefully cared for the seedlings each day, watching them grow stronger and taller. Once the plants were ready, the class proudly transferred the sunflowers to the outdoor playground garden, where they now continue to thrive in the sunshine for everyone to enjoy.
