Principal's Newsletter 2025-2026
September 9, 2025
From the desk of Mrs. Walton
Our Eagles have been busy, and we couldn’t be more proud of them! Benchmarking is just about finished, and our students have been giving their best effort. Thank you for encouraging them at home—it really makes a difference. Fall sports are also in full swing, and it’s been wonderful to cheer on our athletes as they represent NMS with pride. On a lighter note, our school family had something extra special to celebrate this week—Molly turned two! She’s brought so much joy to our halls and always knows how to steal the spotlight.
We’re also excited to share that Leader in Me has officially started! Students are learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and working through the “First 8 Days” curriculum. These lessons are helping them build confidence, take ownership, and discover the leader inside themselves. We can already see them using the habits in small but powerful ways each day.
Invitations are going home for our Night of Scholars on September 18th. This evening celebrates the hard work of our 4th–7th grade students who have gone above and beyond. To make sure more families can attend, we’ll have two sessions this year—grades 4 and 5 at 5:30 p.m., and grades 6–8 at 7:00 p.m. Please remember to reserve your seats so we can plan for enough appetizers and seating. Black and white attire is requested, and we ask families attending the later session not to arrive too early so our first group has time to finish up. This is always such a special evening, and we can’t wait to celebrate these incredible students with you!
A couple of other important dates to keep in mind: October 16th will be our Title I Family Night, and on November 6th from 3:15–6:00 p.m. we’ll be hosting student-led parent-teacher conferences. This is a wonderful event where your child will guide the conversation and share their progress, goals, and accomplishments with you. It’s an empowering moment for them—and one you won’t want to miss. Our Singing Eagle Choir sign-up sheets need to be turned in to Mrs. Sutton before September 18th. The first day of Choir will be September 18th, after school until 4pm.
Finally, just a quick reminder that our school day starts at 7:52 a.m.. If students aren’t in their classrooms by that time, they are counted tardy. This could keep them from qualifying for PBIS/Attendance rewards. You’ve been doing a great job making sure your kids arrive on time—thank you! And a big shout-out to the parents in our drop-off line who have their children ready to hop out quickly. Your teamwork helps the line move faster and makes the mornings smoother for everyone.

Attendance Matters
Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
