Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
March 24, 2026
Look at our Garden Grow
What an incredible weekend! If you walked by the school grounds over the last few days, you witnessed something truly special. Thanks to an outpouring of community spirit, our latest project is officially coming to life.
A Huge Thank You to our PTO
First and foremost, we want to extend a massive thank you to our PTO. This project began long before the first shovel hit the dirt. Our PTO members, notably Shelly Hamler, spent countless hours researching and writing the grants that secured the funding necessary to make this dream a reality. We also appreciate Steven Morris from Ballinger Creek Management Company for the concrete prep-work that made the work on Saturday possible. Your dedication to providing the best for our students is the engine that drives us forward.
It Takes a Village
This weekend was a masterclass in teamwork. We are feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for:
Our Community Organizations: Thank you to American Pest, Ballinger Creek Management Co. and the Building Goodness Foundation for showing up with tools, supplies, and expert hands.
Our Families: From hauling mulch to tightening bolts, your hard work transformed the space in record time.
It was incredible to see the teamwork in action. Seeing parents, neighbors, and kids working side-by-side reminds us why this community is so unique.
What’s Next?
The kids are already buzzing with excitement! While the progress this weekend was significant, we are just getting started. The students are already asking, "What's next?" and we can't wait to show them.
School Climate Survey
Panorama School Survey
Families - In addition to what we shared last week (having students in grades 3-5 reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will complete during classes with Mr. Gamble) a copy of the survey will be sent to you.
We are asking that all of our students and families participate in the surveys, as responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt as a school.
If you have any questions about the Panorama survey, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Gamble, our School Counselor.
Please Advocate for Our School THIS WEEK!
This is a summary of a communication sent to all ACPS families last week:
Dear Scottsville Families,
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and School Board are currently making critical budget decisions that will shape the future of our schools. For years, our county has prioritized education as its most important investment, but we are now at a tipping point.
Join the Conversation
To maintain our standard of excellence, we need your partnership. Your feedback helps the School Board prioritize which programs are most essential to your child’s success.
We invite you to attend a Town Hall meeting to share your priorities:
Where: Yancey Community Center
When: This Thursday March 26 from 6-8 PM
If you cannot attend, please consider emailing the School Board at schoolboard@k12albemarle.org or contacting the Board of Supervisors to share your expectations for how your tax dollars are allocated.
Together, we can ensure our school continues to provide the best possible education for every student.
Safety Week Spring Edition!
Safety is paramount here at SES! This week we will be conducting the following drills: Tornado, Earthquake, Hold, Secure the Building, and an Evacuation Drill. The purpose of these drills is to ensure that students and staff all know and feel prepared if we ever had to use them. Please contact the front office if you have any questions.
Save the Date ~ Next Week!
Thoughtful Tigers!
It's always a joy to celebrate students who show CARES and help others! Our students are chosen from all of those nominated by staff and peers the prior week.
Tips for Staying Healthy!
We still have lots of illness going around. Be sure to wash your hands often and check with Nurse Bittner if you are unsure whether your child should come to school or stay home.
Lost and Found
Unclaimed items will be donated over spring break.
News from PTO!
Every parent, guardian, and staff member at Scottsville Elementary is automatically part of the PTO, no sign-ups, dues, or meeting attendance required. The PTO only works when our school community works together, and right now we truly need more helping hands. Even volunteering once or helping in a small way makes a big difference for our students and staff.
Upcoming Events
🎉 Spring Bingo & Silent Auction – THIS Friday!
This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and we still need a few helping hands! We’re especially looking for volunteers for setup before the event and cleanup afterward. (Good news—setup volunteers can still play bingo once the fun begins!)
