DKHS WEEKLYNEWSLETTER"Do A Job"

NOVEMBER 22, 2024 NOVEMBER 22, 2024

This week I reminded our staff that not all of our kids are excited about the Holidays. In my 20 years as a counselor at both the elementary and high school levels, this time of year always brought increased stress and anxiety for a big portion of our student body. Let me encourage you to check in with your kids, be intentional about your self-care, and have increased awareness around any extra support they may need. We are paying extra attention here extending grace and doing everything in our power to support and encourage our students.

The weeks after Thanksgiving Break are going to fly by and the end of semester one will be here quickly. We have been talking to our students about the pacing and preparation they need to have a strong finish and find success for this first semester. Please monitor their progress on PowerSchool and reach out to teachers with questions or concerns.

Last Night our Winter Community Pep Rally was a great night as we met our winter sports teams and once again came together to celebrate some of what makes Delton special. Thank you to Sajos and MidLakes for your contribution of the mini basketballs that were distributed during the rally. We appreciate your support of our programs and our kids. These local businesses along with many others are consistent supporters of DK Schools. Games will be starting soon with boys basketball getting the winter season rolling with a game Tuesday the 26th at Maple Valley.

This week’s academic highlights include some 2 Liter bottles Mrs Guthrie’s physics class turned into rockets with inserted micro-bits. Students learn concepts like Newton's Laws through hands-on projects that integrate engineering, physics, and coding. Micro-bits are small computers that students program to collect data. For the water bottle rocket investigation, the onboard accelerometer collects data from the rocket and sends it to a micro-bit receiver attached to their computer. Students investigate different variables such as rocket mass or amount of fuel and analyze their data to determine their rocket's performance.

Mrs. Mast has her PE kids active and learning much more than just skills and fundamentals of games. Check out her post in this bulletin. In English 12, our seniors are working on essays connected to their possible career choices researching the training or education required, the job market, and writing about their passions, skills, and talents that make that career a good fit in their eyes.

Don’t forget next week is just 2 days with no school Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving break. We will not be sending a High School Bulletin next week. I’m thankful for my 33 years here and count the opportunity to be a part of Delton Kellogg Schools and this community as one of the many great blessings in my life. It is Always a Great Day To Be A Panther!!! Enjoy your break next week.

This week’s Hogie’s Hero is Griffyn Harmon who showed great support and leadership with a wrestling teammate. It wasn’t his job but that is a perfect example of DO A JOB as Griffyn took it upon himself to help.

Fun in PE! Fun in PE!

Good things are happening in PE class. Satryan Ball is a new PE game that combines soccer, handball, and strategy elements. It is quickly becoming a classroom favorite. This dynamic game is high-energy and inclusive, making it a great fit for players of all skill levels. Satryan Ball requires teamwork, agility, and quick decision-making, bringing a refreshing challenge to PE classes.
