We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Phase 2 of our playground installation is officially complete and open for play!

This milestone would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of our incredible PTO and the extraordinary generosity of all our Dayton Eagles families. Your donations turned a plan into a reality that will benefit our students for years to come.

THANK YOU for helping us build a fun and engaging space for our students to learn, play, and grow!

Art

Project Highlight: 5th Grade Woodland Animals

In observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, 5th graders are creating a drawing inspired by Anishinaabe/Ojibwe artist Mark Anthony Jacobsen. He explores the stories and elements of his heritage through abstract painting and drawing; demonstrating the relationship between people, animals, and nature in his art.

Core

We have been learning about our school district’s Acceptable Use Policy. This helps our students understand how they can use technology safely and responsibly at school.

K-1: Students have been learning how to navigate our educational applications on the iPad.

2nd Grade: Students have been practicing their logins and learning how to navigate the chromebook.

3rd - 5th Grades: Students have reviewed where to find tools and applications they need for school. They have also begun practicing keyboarding skills.

Explorations

K-5: Please feel free to subscribe to TWIG Science Reporter for fun and interactive science experiences you can explore at home! https://info.imaginelearning.com/twig-science-reporter-subscribe/?utm_campaign=twig-science-reporter&utm_source=twigsciencereporter.com&utm_medium=referral

🌱 Kindergarten – My Big Nature Adventure
Our youngest scientists are discovering what plants need to survive! This month, we’ll explore how sunlight, water, and air help plants grow strong and healthy. It’s the perfect time to talk about nature and plant life at home!

🌸 First Grade – Museum of Leafology
First graders are diving into the world of plants as they learn about roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds. We’ll investigate how seeds grow and travel to new places, helping plants spread across the world!

🔎 Second Grade – Master of Materials
Second graders are becoming material scientists! We’ll explore different materials, their special properties, and why certain materials are chosen for specific purposes. Students will be hands-on as they test and compare materials to see what makes each one unique.

🌀 Third Grade – The Ultimate Playground
Third graders are taking a closer look at the invisible forces all around us! From pushes and pulls to the pull of gravity, students will experiment with how these forces affect movement and speed. They’ll work like scientists and engineers as they test their ideas in action!

🏛️ Fourth Grade – Government and Leadership
Our fourth graders are investigating leadership and decision-making in the U.S. government and in tribal governments. We’ll learn about how these systems function, why governance is important, and how different types of leadership guide communities.

🏺 Fifth Grade – Ancient Civilizations
Fifth graders are traveling back in time to explore the fascinating world of ancient civilizations! We’ll uncover how these societies lived, what they built, and how their innovations continue to shape the world we live in today.

Library

In the library, we have been talking about how we can take care of our library books so that they don’t get lost or damaged. How does your child take care of their library books at home?

Recently, our Kindergarten students got to check out their first library book! When they return it to school, they will get to choose two new ones to bring home!

First and second grade students learned about the Star of the North Book Award. Together, over the next few months, we will read the 10 nominated books, and in the spring, students will get to vote for their favorite one.

Our older students will be learning about the Maud Hart Lovelace book award. They will have the opportunity to read the nominated books over the next few months. If they read at least three of them, they will be able to vote for their favorite one.

And…look for the book fair coming to Dayton during conferences! The Scholastic Book Fair will be open during conference nights only (Oct. 6th from 1pm - 7:45pm and Oct. 9th from 4pm - 7:45pm). We look forward to seeing your family there and celebrating the joy of reading!
