I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and able to get away for some quality time with their families before the start of another academic year.

On campus, we are making final preparations for the fall teams to report for preseason camps to begin their 2024 seasons. Earlier this week Coach Drayton and members of our football program traveled to Arlington, TX for the American Athletic Conference Football Kickoff Media Days where new Commissioner Tim Pernetti acknowledged late President Epps and President Englert in his opening remarks. Temple Football opens the season with a nationally televised game at Oklahoma on ESPN on Friday, August 30th (7 pm) with our home opener two weeks later against Coastal Carolina (Sept. 14, 2 pm).

On North Broad, our first fall sports home contest features our women's soccer team under new coach Chris Shaw taking on Monmouth (Aug. 15). Men's Soccer’s home opener is a week later against Army (Aug. 22) with Field Hockey (Queens), Volleyball (Rider) and Men's and Women's Cross Country (Temple Pre-Season Invite) holding their first home contests on Aug. 30.

Hope to see you at our games this year cheering on our young men and women.

Last week the American Athletic Conference announced the pairings for the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball schedules.

On the men’s side, our Owls square off against Charlotte, East Carolina, Memphis, North Texas, South Florida and Tulsa with each team playing once at home and once on the road. We then have home contests against Florida Atlantic, Tulane and Wichita State and travel to Rice, UAB and UTSA.

On the women’s side, we take on Charlotte, East Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, Tulane and UAB with each team playing once at home and once on the road. Our Owls have home contests against Rice, Tulsa and Wichita State and travel to Florida Atlantic, North Texas and UTSA.

Congrats to our very own Marissa DiGenova, who starred for our Owls from 2017 -21, on signing with two-time NWSL champion Portland Thorns. Marissa had been playing for the Lancaster Inferno prior to joining Portland as a National Team replacement player.

Congrats to Margherita Calderaro, one of our most decorated fencers on and off the strip, on earning another academic honor, College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Third Team. During her final year of eligibility Margherita completed her master’s degree in neuroscience, while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Also last week, our Volleyball team was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with a Team Academic Award for its 3.62 yearly grade point average.

Football season ticket holders will have the opportunity to watch practice, enjoy food and beverages, and meet head coach Stan Drayton and members of the team at the Edberg-Olson Football Complex.
