Welcome to the 2026-2027 Academic School Year

Dear Golden Hill Elementary School Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! It is with great excitement and optimism that I welcome you to Golden Hill Elementary School. Whether you are returning to our school community or joining us for the first time, we are thrilled to partner with you in supporting your child's learning and growth.

This school year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our community. With the closure of the middle school, we have a unique opportunity to reestablish and strengthen Golden Hill Elementary School as a place where every child is known, valued, and inspired to succeed. Together, we will build on our rich history while creating new traditions that celebrate academic excellence, student achievement, and a strong sense of belonging.

Our dedicated staff is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to be curious, creative, and confident learners. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are the foundation of student success, and we look forward to working closely with our families throughout the year.

As we begin this journey together, we invite you to become actively involved in our school community. Attend school events, Family Fridays, volunteer when you can, communicate with your child's teacher, and celebrate the many accomplishments our students will achieve. Your partnership makes a tremendous difference.

The year ahead is filled with new opportunities, meaningful learning experiences, and exciting possibilities. Together, we will continue to make Golden Hill Elementary School a place where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children. We look forward to an outstanding 2026–2027 school year and all that we will accomplish together.

Warm regards,

Dr. Julia Martinez
Principal

Let’s Make 2026-2027 an Awesome Year Together!

To our returning families, welcome back to another exciting year at Golden Hill! And to those joining our community for the very first time, we extend a heartfelt greeting — we’re so happy you’re here. We hope your summer was filled with rest, joy, and maybe even a little FIFA World Cup excitement! Now, we’re ready to kick off a fantastic school year together.

A reminder that the first day back, Mon 10 Aug, will be an early dismissal day (1:15PM) for all grades. TK and Kinder will continue to have early dismissal through to 21 Aug 2026.

The Golden Hill PTO is a dedicated team of parent and teacher volunteers who work year‑round to support our TK–5 students through engaging events, meaningful programs, and school‑wide initiatives. Every dollar raised helps expand academic and enrichment opportunities that nurture the growth, creativity, and success of every child in our community.

Thanks to the incredible generosity and enthusiasm of our families and local partners, last year’s fundraising efforts raised an unprecedented and impressive ~$65,000 — all of which directly benefits our students and school.

With your continued partnership, we’re aiming not only to meet this year’s fundraising goal but to surpass it. Every event, every contribution, and every moment of engagement brings us closer to our $65,000 target, directly fueling opportunities for our students. We invite you to stay connected, stay involved, and help us make this our most impactful year yet.

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, we warmly invite all new and returning families to join us in creating a joyful, enriching, and memorable year for our students. Our events thrive because of the energy and support of our parent community, and we can’t wait to continue building this vibrant Golden Hill Eagle spirit together.

Want to Get Involved with the PTO?

Our work is not possible without the time, talent, and love of our community members. There are so many ways that you can get involved, meet other parents, and help make our school the best that it can be. Whether you can spare one hour at an upcoming event or school lunch, are interested in joining a campus support team, have an idea for a new student club, or are excited to become a room parent – we welcome you!

Visit www.goldenhillpto.org to learn more about current volunteer opportunities and click HERE to sign up for a role. Any amount of time you can volunteer is incredibly valuable and so appreciated! If you have questions or ideas, email Avital Aboody-Lopez, PTO Volunteer Coordinator: Volunteer.GoldenHillPTO@gmail.com

San Diego Unified Phone Free District San Diego Unified Phone Free District

Here at Golden Hill we had implemented a phone free policy as early as last year because we understand how phones can disrupt the learning environment. We are pleased that our district recently adopted a phone-free school day policy, developed in accordance with California's Phone-Free School Act (Assembly Bill 3216), which establishes guidelines designed to reduce interruptions to learning, foster in-person connection among peers and support healthy boundaries with technology. The state law requires all public school districts to adopt policies by July 1, 2026, making San Diego Unified an early adopter.

Please see the attached letter that will also be sent to families through our unified communications.

Birthdays and Celebrations

A birthday and/or celebration is a wonderful event for a child and we love to celebrate. Yet, we do have to adhere to our district wellness policy. In accordance with the district guidelines, please see a list of district approved snacks and District Wellness Policy.

If you wish to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please check with your child's teacher on classroom celebrations for minimal classroom interruptions to schedules.
