Almost Back to School Edition

A Message from Mr. Macias
From the Principal's Desk
Hello Gladiator Families!
What a great week to be a Gladiator! Math MAP testing went very well this week and we will administer the Reading MAP test next week on Tuesday, September 1st. Remember MAP tests measure growth. This first round of MAP testing sets a baseline so we can measure student growth throughout the year. We also welcomed families for Athletic Family Night, our first volleyball games, and our first football games of the 26-27 season. We are extremely proud of all of our student athletes for competing the Texas Way and for playing with Gladiator G.R.I.T.!
Grateful for Our Community
A GIANT thank you to our parents that have been volunteering their time and effort as temporary crossing guards at the intersection of Kyle Seale and Sonoma Parkway. You have helped keep our Gladiators safe on their way to and from Garcia. Our new crossing guard should be starting very soon! Another HUGE thank you to all of the parent volunteers, Habits Fitness, and Ramon Richards for helping make our Athletic Family Night a success.
Attendance Celebration
As you may have noticed by the PJs on Friday, we achieved our attendance goal for a 2nd week in a row. If we average 97% or better daily attendance for an entire week students are allowed to wear pajamas on Friday. We also reward students with perfect attendance for each 3 week period. Students that had perfect attendance for the first 3 weeks of school will have recess time during their lunch on September 11th.
Backpack Inventory
This weekend is a great time to take a look at your student's backpack and see what's inside. We still are seeing students with large backpacks or even 2 backpacks. Students in Athletics should be putting their athletic uniform/bags in their athletic lockers in the morning. Athletic locker rooms are open from 8:20 to 8:40 am. For many students, the zipper binder may be able to hold all of their necessary materials. For all others, we ask that they only keep required items in their backpacks.
HGMS Clubs are Starting Soon!
Our school clubs will be starting soon so I have attached a list of our current clubs and their meeting days and times. If your student would like to participate in a club please make sure to fill out and sign the permission slip that they bring home.
School Advisory Team
Want to hear what is going on at HGMS? Want to have a voice in how we can continue to have the BEST middle school in the city? Want to have input in what we do at HGMS? If so, we would love to have you serve on the School Advisory Team. This is a team made up of various community members who come together to provide our students a high quality educational experience. Click the link below to volunteer and we will send you more information soon. There are only four meetings of the committee each year!
PM Traffic Flow Improving!
Thank you to all of you who are following are after school traffic guidelines. We need you to do your part to keep our students safe and to keep traffic flowing. DO NOT PICK STUDENTS UP ON KYLE SEALE PKWY. Northside Police and SAPD will be assisting with patrols during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
