Final Assembly Parade
The Final Assembly Parade is another highlight of our Senior Week festivities. This year the MUMS Student Council joined, and MUMS students lined Court Street to cheer us along the way. Mary Hogan students greeted us with signs and class banners. They even displayed the old 2026 banner dug out of a storage closet just last week—a fun throw-back to our graduates' younger selves!
Academics
The ongoing Theory of Knowledge Art Project announces the newest addition to the MUHS hallways with a vintage 1918 US Savings Bond poster, Over The Top, kindly donated by Jack Hoyler and family. Here’s an excerpt from the MUHS Core ToK summative assignment responding to the knowledge question, ‘Does some knowledge belong only to particular communities of knowers?’
This poster was created in 1918 in the United States during the final stages of World War I. Its main purpose was to convince Americans to buy liberty bonds for the Third Liberty Loan, which was one of the biggest ways the U.S. raised money for the war. At this time, the government needed a massive amount of public support to keep the war effort going. Posters were one of the most effective tools for communication as radio and film weren’t widely used yet. The fact that millions bought bonds suggests that the knowledge expressed in the poster was understood by Americans living in that historical moment.
Summer Reading
Before the end of the school year, stop in the library and check out books to read over the summer! Students may check out up to 5 books from our library and return them in September. Every student will also receive an Ilsley Library Summer Reading Challenge sheet from their advisor. The theme is Plant a Seed, Read! and you can win prizes and a gift card from Shiretown or Haymaker. Check out some Summer Reading Recommendations from the MUHS Library.
