From Katy Farnham: 10th grader Neesha C. (upper left) has spent more than 60 hours this year in Ms. Sussman’s 2nd grade class at Hinesburg Community School. Neesha is pursuing her interest in elementary education via this independent study. Ms. Sussman says "Neesha adds so much positive energy to our second grade classroom. The kids adore her and I love all the extra help!" Students also were asked to comment about their experiences with Neesha. One said "she helps us when we need help, and she helps us with whatever we need, and she is the nicest person I know so far". Students also said "she pushes us on the swing," "Ms. Neesha is really nice to us," "every time she is here she gives us hugs before she leaves", "she sits with us at lunch," "she reads me books", "she draws lovely pictures for us". This is Neesha's 2nd placement at HCS, continuing her positive experiences there in RISE her freshman year.

Below is a photo of the Environmental Action Club brainstorming solutions to help the cafeteria continue to use reusable dishes and silverware. So far just this year, the Cafe is down 1,700 utensils, 400 plates, and 100 trays because of folks not returning them or throwing them away. Come to EnAct Thursdays during C3 to join the solutions process!

The CVU Rowing team will have its 2nd race of the season on Saturday, 10/28 on the Otter Creek in Vergennes. We LOVE having fans, so all are welcome. The race starts at 9AM and should continue until noon. Hope to see folks there!! GO ROW-HAWKS!

Congratulations to CVU Student Teryn Hytten for organizing and teaching a ceramics ACCESS wheel throwing course to benefit CVU's first Empty Bowl fundraising dinner on January 19th. Teryn has invited 15 community members, with wheel experience, to join her in making 300 ceramic bowls over the course of the semester. These bowls are to be handed out at the event and represent food insecurity within our Vermont community. Visit Empty Bowl Pottery to learn more about this initiative.

Teryn, thank you for bringing this project to CVU, and for creating this community connection through your passion for pottery! Stay tuned for more information in January on how to purchase Empty Bowl tickets to benefit the Hinesburg Food Shelf.

If you own a business, and would like to sponsor this community event, please reach out to ACCESS at access@cvsdvt.org.

Community Celebrations/Notes Community Celebrations/Notes

CVU Community Cares program helps students & families meet basic needs. Some examples of past support include: buying groceries, providing for basics like winter clothing, and offsetting transportation expenses. The CVU Community Cares program is in need of DONATIONS! Your contributions now will be available to families right away, helping us to provide support through holidays and economic hardships. 100% of donations go directly to recipients. This is a meaningful way you personally can help make a difference in the lives of our CVU community.

When/if you are able to make a donation, it is easy: You can send a monetary donation either by check (made out to CVU Community Cares) or cash (specify that it is for CVUCC), delivered to the Main office or Direction Center office. If you have further questions, please contact Laurie Berryman (lberryman@cvsdvt.org) Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Thank you for your assistance with this.

Research shows that women win elections at the same rates as men. So why is the 118th Congress only 28% female? Because women run for office at far lower rates than men. Running Start is a nonpartisan nonprofit that wants to change that. Come join CVU grad and Running Start fellow Emma Destito for Elect Her at CVU, a one-day training where you can learn how to run for office. Practice your campaign skills, speak to elected women in your community (including Vermont’s first and only female governor, Madeleine Kunin!), and enjoy some Burlington Bagels and Brio Coffee! Elect Her at CVU will run from 10AM to 1PM on Saturday, November 11th. This event is open to all people interested in learning more about running for office and gender parity. Register HERE.
