Cougar Clips 4 April 2025

Happy Friday Kipling Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful spring break. Thank you to all who attended conferences last week. Your partnership in your childs’s education is essential to everything we do here.

What an amazing turnout at McTeacher Night on Wednesday! Thank you to our PTO for organizing this event and for all the students, staff, and families who came out to participate. I was filled with gratitude and pride to see our community come together in such a resounding way.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at Bingo Night tonight from 6-8pm in the gym. There will be a concurrent, low-sensory option taking place in the LMC during the same timeframe.

All my best to you and your families over the weekend.

Respectfully,

Mr. Matthew O. Lombardo, NBCT

Kipling Read-a-Thon!

The second annual Kipling Elementary School Read-A-Thon is happening March 22 through April 11. It's SUPER EASY to get your child/ren signed up and logged on in order to start tracking their minutes.

Click on this link to get started.

Why participate?

  • Students can easily monitor their reading minutes and see how they stack up against classmates, other students in their grade, and the entire school

  • Students can set personal goals and work towards achieving them and they can win really cool prizes

Important things to know about our read-a-thon:

  • Students must log their minutes on this site for the minutes to count towards the class competition and individual prizes

  • All reading at school and at home counts

  • Students can read by themselves, read out loud, be read to, or listen to an audiobook

  • Students can log up to 200 minutes per day

  • Students do not have to participate in the fundraising in order to participate in tracking minutes to earn prizes

Happy reading! Please reach out if you have any questions.

Seeking Cultures to Showcase

Thank you to the Strobel family for filling our Cultural Collection case with your beautiful and rich Chilean artifacts. Thank you for taking the lead this year for our school community. We all have so many unique and special cultural perspectives and lived experiences to share with each other and I am very proud and eager to learn about each of yours.

In an effort to ensure inclusion of diverse populations and perspectives, we are looking for other Kipling families to use the Kipling Cultural Collection to teach the Kipling community about your culture! Display objects may include 6-8 traditional or cultural objects, a family video describing the significance of each object, recipe, flag, map, music, etc - anything to bring your vibrant culture to life!

If you and your family are interested in sharing your culture with the Kipling community, please complete this brief form. If you sign up, a member of our committee will be in contact about next steps. If you have any questions, please email
Lisa Pfeffer @ lpfeffer@dps109.org.

Erin’s Law

Erin’s Law (House Bill 6193) was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. District 109 partners with Childhood Victories, Inc., an organization founded by Victor Pacini who is a motivational speaker and a survivor of sexual abuse. Speakers from Childhood Victories, Inc. provide programming for our students that teaches them basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The program, Be Seen and Heard 2.0, is developmentally appropriate, interactive, aligned with learning standards, and will cover the following topics:

  • Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches

  • Safety rules at home and school

  • Saying “NO”

  • Secrets

  • It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches them

  • Telling a trusted adult

The staff from Childhood Victories, Inc. will be presenting to our elementary students on the following dates:

  • Wilmot: Thursday, April 24th

  • South Park: Thursday, April 24th

  • Walden: Wednesday, April 23rd

  • Kipling: Friday, April 25th

Requests to Opt-Out: If you prefer that your child opt-out of this prevention education session, please email your child’s principal by Thursday, April 17.
