Dear Grown-ups,

September sure snuck up on us fast with all things school! Your student(s) were settling in to school pretty great for their first 5 day week! This week is going to go even smoother as expectations are reinforced through our all school behavior expectations assembly.

Your K-5 student(s) will be taking PRE-assessments this week for our District NWEA assessments and K-2 will also be taking the PRE-assessment for the State IRI called Amira. They might be a little more tired than usual with additional assessments this week.

As parents it is helpful when you reinforce expectations with your student(s) as well. Some routines you can help us with moving forward are:

  • Please do NOT get out of your car in the pick up line--we need everyone safe and keep the line moving
  • Please USE the crosswalks (cutting through the pick up line is NOT safe for you or our students)
  • If you walk or park to pick up your child please meet them AT THE AMERICAN FLAG flag pole in order to pick them up. (Please do not ask them to do something else they are trying to earn points and be safe while following the rules)
    • DO not block our pick up line sidewalk area- Wait in the large flag pole area instead
  • PLEASE try to get your student(s) to school at the first bell so they can line up with their class and be on time for the school start bell. If you bring them late they receive the tardy, unfortunately.
  • If your end of day transportation routine changes you must call BEFORE 2:30pm each day or write a note stating the change to the office. Otherwise they WILL be sent on the daily routine.

Thank you so much for your help with setting a great example for your student and helping to reinforce Summit's routines and expectations for after school.

Students will also be learning about the school store that is part of PBIS and why they have been working hard earning points at school by meeting the expectations and emulating our CLIMB philosophy! They are sure to be excited for our FIRST opportunity to order from the school store!

Additional highlight Information you need to know about to help your student be successful:

This year there will be several changes that will impact some of you more than others:

    • The biggest of these is a tightening of school tardies and absences to meet school and school district policies.
      1. Please arrive to school on time. Bell rings at 8:10am
      2. Automated letters will be sent out for both absences and positive attendance.
      3. Consequences for repeated tardies and absences will be addressed by administration and Attendance court.
      4. Appointment's require a note from the Dr/practitioner to be turned into the office.
    • Implementation of Positive Behavior and Supports Systems (PBIS) building-wide to help students be more success with positive academic and behavioral choices
      1. Students will all be required to wear a lanyard with a badge (Summit provides the first one) during school hours with their PBIS code on it to receive positive recognition points
      2. Their lanyards will also have their Library barcode and name on it for ease in checking out books.
      3. Lanyard must be worn during entire school day for both earning positive rewards and for safety purposes.
      4. Lanyards must stay at school-they receive a point each day for this.
      5. Lost lanyards cost $3 to replace and lost badges cost $2. If entire lanyard is lost it will cost $5 to replace it. Please encourage your student to demonstrate responsibility when wearing it at school.
    • School to home communication will ONLY be through our PowerSchool program. No class dojo etc. will be used! If you want or need to be informed about school events, important safety notices and want communication with your child's teacher to help your child be success you must:
      1. Please DO NOT block PowerSchool (you will not know what is going on)
      2. If you have already created a block please unblock it
      3. Teachers will still call or email with individual concerns or praise occasionally during a time when they have time so please do not block school phone numbers or emails.
      4. Teachers will only be using PowerSchool Power Hub for TWO-WAY parent communication so access to power school is very important.
      5. We also post information on our Summit Elementary Facebook and Jerome Schools District Facebook pages for your convenience! Please "like" to stay informed.

We are going to be encouraging more community engagement within our schools and invite you to get more involved in our great school. If you have a desire to be more involved at Summit please reach out to our community Schools Coordinator, Gabriela Urrutia, or Administration at

208-324-3396. Some ways to get involved:

  • Help with attendance initiatives
  • Join the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)
  • Join the Community Impact Team (CIT)
  • Attend School events! We want to see you
  • Attend student conferences and come to Meet Your Teacher Night
  • Be a crossing guard

Homecoming will be here soon--Help us celebrate our Tigers!

Homecoming is Coming!

Our Homecoming theme this year is “Once Upon a Homecoming” — a celebration inspired by the magic, characters, adventures, and stories of Disney!

Festivities officially begin Tuesday, September 8, and we have a full week of activities planned. We would love your help making it an exciting week for all the students in Jerome by encouraging participation, joining in on dress-up days, and helping us bring the Homecoming spirit to life.

Dress-Up Days

9/7 Monday NO SCHOOL due to Labor Day!-NO Dress Up

9/8 Tuesday – Adventure Day

Come dressed for your favorite adventure! Think explorers, adventurers, safari, pirates, Disney adventure characters, and more.

9/9 Wednesday – Jersey Day

Represent your favorite team, player, or sport!

9/10 Thursday – “Dressing” Day

This is a play on salad dressing. JHS will be dividing it by grade but we thought it might be easier for you to dress up as a school:

  • JMS, Falls City: Ranch (western attire)
  • Jefferson, Frontier, Summit, and Horizon: Thousand Island (tropical vibes)

(at JHS we will also be using Caesar and Vinaigrette, but we want to keep it simple for you)

9/11 Friday – Tiger Pride
Break out the orange, black, and white and show your Tiger Pride during school and at the parade!

Friday Game – Patriotic
To honor 9/11 we will be dressing in red, white, and blue for the game
