Mission Statement
THE MISSION OF THE AFFTON FOOTBALL PROGRAM IS TO TEACH LIFE SKILLS TO OUR PLAYERS, SO THEY CAN BE THE BEST VERSION OF THEMSELVES ON AND OFF THE FIELD.
Happy Sunday Football Family.
"Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it."
I've read and said this quote from pastor, author, and educator Charles R. Swindoll so many times to my players, my students, and my kids. It sounds nice, but I can honestly say that I do not follow what it preaches. I guess I never saw a good concrete example of it in my life until this past Friday. The boys showed me living examples throughout the game Friday, after the game, and this weekend. Not only the boys, but our coaches too.
After LuSo recovered an onside kick for the first play of the game and then scored on their first drive, our boys reacted by recovering another onside kick attempt and scoring on their first offensive play. Our offense scored on a remarkable pass and catch in our red zone, but we had a penalty and the play was called back. Our boys reacted by scoring on the very next play with another remarkable pass and catch. Then, a bad snap went over our QB's head and pinned us back on our 10 yard line. The boys reacted yet again on the next play: a 90-yard pass touchdown. If you missed it, or if you just want to relive these moments, please refer to the highlight videos below.
After a tough loss, the boys reacted with good spirit and knowing that we need to keep working in order to improve. Yet again, today our boys showed me another example of how to react positively. They not only were there for each other during the weekend, but they even set up their own team lunch on Sunday.
It was hard to wake up early Saturday morning after a lost, but the coaches encouraged me during our Saturday morning meeting that we will improve. They created a plan to maximize our practice time together and focus on three areas of improvement this week:
- To tackle better
- To minimize mental mistakes
- To condition our mind and body to play four quarters of football
I appreciate the boys and the coaches for showing me the best way to react after a lost: support each other and learn from each other.
Thank you,
Coach Muyco
