A Message from Principal Buchko
Dear MacArthur Families,
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make these past few weeks so special for our students and staff. MacArthur’s Angel Tree helped make Christmas a little brighter for 185 students across 85 families. We could not have provided the abundance of gifts without the generosity and support of each of you.
A special shout-out to some of our incredible sponsors: Faith Church, Eisenhower Elementary School, Crown Point High School Honor Society, MacArthur Teachers & Staff and Bethel Church.
- Candy Grams raised $1,000, which will be donated to the Buddy Bag Project.
- Locker Decorating raised $215, which will be donated to MacArthur’s Angel Tree.
If you follow us on Facebook, be sure to check out photos from all the amazing festivities our students enjoyed—lots of fun was had by all!
A special thank you to our PTO for hosting Santa’s Secret Shop and for sponsoring “It’s an Old School Holiday, Charlie” for our staff. Through the generous donations from our MacArthur families, our team enjoyed decorating homemade sugar cookies, a hot cocoa with all of the fixings, dancing like Peanuts characters, searching for elves, and participating in many other festive activities. Staff members earned Merriment Tickets for prizes as they joined in the fun. Thank you to all the parents who donated items to support this event—your generosity is truly appreciated.
On behalf of everyone here at MacArthur, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and a relaxing, enjoyable winter break!
Have a Great Weekend.
Marian Buchko

Winter Break Food Assistance
Winter break can be a difficult time for families facing food insecurity, as it can be challenging to ensure that children receive a full and well-balanced diet in the absence of reliable school meals. Here are some resources you can share with families to help fill the nutritional gap over school winter break:
- Visit Community Compass to find free groceries, free meals, SNAP stores, WIC stores, and WIC clinics near you
- Explore Feeding Indiana’s Hungry Find Your Food Bank map
- Dial 211 or visit the Indiana 211 website to get connected to various local resources, from food pantries to housing assistance
Call USDA’s National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE) to find meal resources near you
Semester Grades and Report Cards
First semester grades will not be finalized until January 9, and report cards will be available after 10:00 am on January 16 in PowerSchool. Click here for a screencast showing how to view a report card. Kindergarten progress reports will be sent to parents/guardians on January 16 via ParentSquare.
