Principal Message
Dear WCS Families,
We are officially entering the final trimester of the school year, and it is time to begin scheduling your spring parent-teacher conferences. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher, review their progress, and work together to ensure a successful finish to the school year.
Our 6th grade students will also begin registering for some of their 7th grade classes on March 12th with their homeroom teacher. Please take some time to review the information provided below and discuss course options with your child so they feel prepared and confident when it is time to register.
Over the past week, we have been made aware of several TikTok and social media challenges circulating among students. Some of these challenges involve unsafe behaviors, such as students attempting to build pressure in their heads by squeezing their necks or repeatedly scratching one spot on their skin to see how much pain they can tolerate. These behaviors are dangerous and can lead to serious injury. Our staff has been informed and will be monitoring closely, but we ask that you also speak with your children about the risks associated with these types of challenges. We strongly encourage families to regularly monitor and review students’ phones and devices to help keep them safe online.
We have also seen an increase in students arriving at school with drinks from local establishments such as Dunkin’, Starbucks, and other coffee shops. As a reminder, according to our school handbook, students are not permitted to bring these beverages to school. Students who arrive with them will not be allowed to have them during the school day. We kindly ask that you refrain from sending these drinks with your child, as they may be asked to discard them upon arrival. Students are encouraged to bring water, which is the only beverage allowed in classrooms unless there is a documented medical reason requiring something else. For your reference, the handbook that families reviewed and signed at the beginning of the school year is linked below. Your support in helping us follow these guidelines is greatly appreciated and helps prevent the disappointment students may feel if they have to discard drinks when they arrive at school.
March 10th is a WSD Teacher Workshop Day and Kids Vote! Be sure to stop by Windham High School to vote between 7AM and 8PM to cast your votes. There will be babysitting available during voting from 9AM to 5PM in the library.
