Message From the Principal
Dear Wildwood Families,
I hope you are all well and looking forward to the end of the year activities. Things are going to be busy! Starting this evening, we have the Art Show and Book Fair happening, 5:00 - 7:30. (The Book Fair runs all week.) I haven’t experienced the Art Show yet so I’m looking forward to it. On Saturday, May 3, there is the Wildwood Spring Festival. There will be food and lots of fun activities for everyone. There are two events where you can meet the new principal, Amy Fry (pictured here with me at Spring Fling). She’ll be at the Parent Club meeting on Tuesday, May 20, here at school. And on Friday, May 16th, she will be at the Community Coffee.
On a different topic, but one I’ve mentioned before, I encourage you to talk to your child about lunch. I worry when kids don’t eat lunch and there are some that don’t. Some bring lunch from home and just eat the dessert, which I understand. We ask them to bring what they don’t eat home so you’re aware of what’s happening. Other students get a hot lunch but they don’t eat it, saying they don’t like it. There are others who socialize through lunchtime and don’t eat much. I also worry that the older girls aren’t eating and why that is - societal pressure? I guess I worry a lot because we see all these things happening at lunchtime.
I’m really happy to share that the PMS Affinity Mentors, who work with Jean Takazawa, are visiting another grade level this month. They come in and do a short presentation about the power of our words and then the students sit with a mentor and a small group of students and talk about their experiences with name calling and the impact of it. The feedback from the teachers has been wonderful. It seems like a great program that Jean has created!
And just a big thanks for all you do to support Wildwood Elementary.
Thanks,
Beth Rhine

Class placement for 2025-2026
It’s the time of year when we start thinking about class placements for next year. I sent this link out in an earlier Whatnot but will share it again. If you want to give input into what type of classroom environment is best for your child, please feel free to use this survey to share the information. We ask that you not ask for a specific teacher as grade level assignments may change over the summer. I think the staff here is amazing and I’ve been at a lot of schools over my many years in education. If I had a child at Wildwood, I would be happy with whatever teacher they were assigned. The teachers may have different styles, but they all offer a good learning and school experience. And I don’t say that lightly, trust me.
Driving around the School
Please do not do U Turns in front of the school on Prospect and Wildwood, or anywhere else that isn’t safe to do so. It’s getting dangerous and is a major concern. If you have someone else picking up or dropping off your child at school, please share this information with them, too. We’ve had some near accidents by school and we want to keep everyone safe! Thank you!

Parents Club Update
Wildwood Spring Festival is THIS Saturday, May 3rd on the Lower Playground!
This is Wildwood's last schoolwide celebration of the school year! There will be bubbles, face painting and henna, the Bay Area Munchiez food truck, gardening and craft activities, a cake hop, a reverse dunk tank and more!
Everyone will receive ticket vouchers for food and activities, as well as a chance to win fun prizes.
SERVES will be there to collect your donations to distribute to our partner OUSD schools; DBFL also will be on hand to collect items that sell in its shop to raise funds for PUSD.
Festival volunteers could use a few extra hands. We are especially looking for a few good sports for the reverse dunk tank. :) Please consider signing up for one of the many opportunities here.
You can contribute by running a craft (all supplies provided!), donating a treat for the Cake Hop, selling tickets…. LOTS of opportunities to jump into. But above all, we hope to see you there!
Dad's Club
Our last meeting of the year is Thursday, May 22, 7:30pm at Cato’s Ale House, 3891 Piedmont Ave, Oakland
You heard that right, the school year is soon drawing to a close. Join us for our final meeting of the year!
Thank you to all of the Dads who attended our year end appreciation event last Friday, April 25. It was a great day of comradery, reverie, pars, birdies, and a few bogies. The day began at the Metropolitan Golf Links with a scramble format with 5 groups taking over the course and completing 9 holes just in time to beat the drizzle. We dried off at Faction Brewery afterwards where we were joined by more Dads and soon a beautiful sunny view of San Francisco.
Thank you again to all of our volunteers for your time throughout the year and for being a part of some amazing events, including the New Dads' Welcome Event, the Schoolwide Welcome Back BBQ, the Pumpkin Patch, and the Island Vibes Crab Feed! We couldn't do it without you!
