Dear HES Caregivers,

March is off to a fantastic start at HES, filled with joyful activity and dedicated learning! Our Sharks are working hard each day, and we’re so proud of their efforts.

This week, we had a special mid-week treat—homemade Philly cheesesteaks for the entire school, courtesy of Superintendent Carpenter! It all started when Ms. Krystofolski’s class asked Dr. Carpenter for the Monday after the Super Bowl off. Instead of a day off, he offered them a fun challenge: if they learned and performed the Eagles' fight song, complete with motions, he’d cook Philly cheesesteaks for them. The class rose to the challenge, and Dr. Carpenter went above and beyond by sharing the delicious reward with the whole school! Check out the pictures below to see this fun and memorable event in action.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead this Sunday so your Sharks are well-rested and ready for learning on Monday morning.

Warmly,

Christie

Reminder! Polished Dental will be coming on March 31 and April 1. Did you know that tooth decay is the second most common disease?! Children should see a dentist every six months to prevent cavities and treat oral health. Polished Dental is a great service provided to all of our students who are not seen regularly by an outside dentist. You will not be charged for this visit, but if you have dental insurance it will be billed. If you signed your child up for this service in the fall your child will be seen again this spring. If you did not sign up your child but would like to, please let me know at HES_nurse@monomoy.edu and we will send home a form for you to fill out. If you need it in a different language, please let me know.

All 4th grade students are required to have a physical exam on file in the nurse's office when they move on to middle school. The physical needs to have been performed within the past 13 months (from the start of next school year). If your child has had a physical since August 2024, please send it in to us as soon as possible. You can either send a copy in their backpacks, email it to hes_nurse@monomoy.edu, or fax it to us at 1-508-744-6387. If your child has not had a physical yet this school year, please remember to ask your pediatrician to fax us a copy at the end of the exam. Sports participation for middle and high school students requires a physical on file each school year. Currently, most 4th grade students do not have a current physical exam on file with the school nurse’s office. Thank you for your help in this matter.

All students Pre-K through 3rd grade: please send in a copy of your child’s physical each year to help us keep our records up to date. Please follow the same instructions above under the 4th grade section. Thank you all so much for your help.

Measles

We are sure many of you have heard that there is an outbreak of Measles in this country. So far no cases have been reported in Mass. Rhode Island has had one case. It is very contagious. If someone has the measles, up to 90% of the people close to them, who are not immune, will also become infected (per the CDC). There has been one confirmed death in the U.S. this year. The child who died was an unvaccinated school aged child. Please, if you question your immunity, or your child has not been fully vaccinated against the Measles, please consider talking to your Primary care provider to discuss this and possibly getting vaccinated. For more information the CDC has a website about the measles. https://www.cdc.gov/measles/data-research/index.html Thank you, we are all in this together.

Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
