A Message From Principal Buchko A Message From Principal Buchko

This past Thursday, we proudly welcomed 18 of our newest members into the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) during a special induction ceremony. These 4th grade students were recognized for their outstanding commitment to scholarship, leadership, responsibility, and service within our school community. Their dedication to academic excellence and positive character makes us incredibly proud, and we look forward to seeing the many ways they will continue to lead and make a difference at MacArthur.

March is Disability Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the abilities, talents, and contributions of people with disabilities. This month reminds us that disability doesn't define a person- their character, skills, and passions do.

Throughout history and today, many remarkable people with disabilities have achieved extraordinary success and made lasting impacts on the world. Many of us wouldn't even know about their disabilities unless they shared their stories! Here are just a few inspiring examples:

  • Stevie Wonder : Blind musician and 25 time Grammy Award winner
  • Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson : Actor and producer with dyslexia
  • Michael J. Fox : Actor and Parkinson's disease advocate
  • Frida Kahlo : Iconic artist who created powerful work despite chronic pain and disability
  • Stephen Hawking : Renowned physicist with ALS who revolutionized our understanding of the universe

These individuals remind us that abilities come in many forms. A disability doesn't limit someone's potential. It's often their determination, creativity, and unique perspective that help them excel.

This March, I encourage you to:

  • Recognize and celebrate the various talents in our school community
  • Challenge assumptions about what people with disabilities can achieve
  • Learn from the stories of successful people with disabilities
  • Support and include classmates with disabilities

We are excited to invite our students and families to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge! This fun and meaningful program encourages students to stay active while learning how to keep their hearts, bodies, and brains healthy. Families can sign up by downloading the AHA Schools app or visiting heart.org/schools to join our school team and take part in the NFL PLAY 60 Family Challenge by tracking 60 minutes of activity each day. Students will also complete Finn’s Mission, where they can learn important lifesaving skills like Hands-Only CPR and how to recognize the warning signs of a stroke. Students who choose to participate can help make a difference by collecting donations that support children with heart conditions. We encourage all families to sign up and join us in building healthy habits while helping others!

Grades at the End of the Third Nine Weeks

Crown Point Community Schools officially report grades at the end of each semester so that students have a longer time to demonstrate what they know and can do. Our focus is on mastery learning and supporting a growth mindset in our learners.

The end of the third 9 weeks is Friday, March 13, 2026. While parents can always monitor their child's progress through our Buzz Learning Management System, this review period at the end of the 9 weeks is a great opportunity to assess how your child is doing. There will still be plenty of time to ask for help if needed, complete work, and bring grades up before the end of the semester when grades are finalized. If you have not yet verified your email address in Buzz, this is an important step to ensure that you are receiving all relevant alerts and information about your child’s progress. Instructions for accessing Buzz are linked here. The end of the semester is May 29, 2026.

Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions about their progress or to learn more about how you can partner with us to support your child’s academic development.
