A Message from Mrs. Austin, Principal
There is something truly special about the first day of school—the excitement of seeing familiar faces, welcoming new students and families, and beginning a brand-new year together. Our staff has worked hard to prepare for this day, and we are so excited to have our students back in the building!
This year, we will continue to build upon the high standards that make Myersville such a special place to learn and grow. Our focus remains on providing every student with engaging learning experiences, meaningful challenges, and the support they need to be successful. Just as importantly, we want every child to feel safe, valued, connected, and proud to be part of our school community.
A successful school year is truly a team effort. We value the partnership we share with our families and appreciate your support, communication, and involvement throughout the year. Together, we can make this an incredible year for our students.
As we begin this new chapter, I am excited about all that lies ahead. Here’s to a wonderful year of learning, growing, celebrating successes, and being the best we can be!

Communication Device Update: Off and Away for a Focused School Day
Starting this year, for all students and all grade levels, students may not use cell phones, smart watches, or other personal communication devices “bell to bell.” FCPS will follow an off and away model, where students must keep their devices out of sight and use while in school.
This change is a result of recent legislation passed during the 2026 Maryland General Assembly. The Maryland Phone-Free Schools Act requires all Maryland public school systems to implement policies governing the use of personal communication devices beginning with the 2027-28 school year. In support of a smooth transition, the FCPS Board of Education requested we begin implementing these expectations during the 2026-27 school year.
As a result, FCPS has updated Personal Mobile Device, Regulation 118-01 to reflect these expectations. This regulation is also aligned with the FCPS Student Code of Conduct . Exceptions may be made as outlined in Regulation 118-01, including for documented medical needs or approved accommodations.
We recognize this will be a significant adjustment for some students, in particular students at the high school level. Across the country, schools have reported many benefits when personal devices were removed from the classroom, including:
- Students being more engaged in class.
- Students being more connected to one another.
- Students being less distracted during their studies.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to discuss digital device expectations and review the FCPS Student Code of Conduct with students prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
Additional information about our updated personal mobile device guidelines, including a frequently asked questions (FAQ) list can be found at https://www.fcps.org/cellphone
Each family will receive a new car rider hang tag with a new number.
Please discard the tags issued to you previously.
Please take advantage of the options to prepay your student's meal accounts. The student's name and ID number are required to set up your account on LINQ Connect.
Prepayment of meals protects against forgotten or lost money and allows students to move through the serving lines more quickly. Parents with multiple children in the school system can also go to LINQ Connect to transfer money between sibling's accounts.
Parents can also send cash or a check to their child’s school cafeteria to pay for school meals. Parents can indicate “Meals Only” on the check if they prefer their child not purchase a la carte items. When a check is received indicating “Meals Only,” a notation will be made on the child’s account to alert the food services staff.
Free and Reduced Price Meal Benefits
Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS), Food and Nutrition Services announces participation in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program for school year 2026-2027.
Free and reduced-price meal benefits are available at all Frederick County Public Schools. Online applications for the 2026-2027 school year are available at https://linqconnect.com.
We encourage families who think they qualify or are unsure if they qualify to complete the free and reduced-price meal benefits application (MBA), to determine your child’s eligibility. Eligibility for free or reduced-price meals is based on the following annual income eligibility guidelines effective from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

IMPORTANT: Families must be approved each new school year. Even if your student has been approved every previous school year, please contact the FNS office to verify current meal benefit status. Last year’s benefits only carry over for the first 30 school days. Without a 2026-2027 meal benefits approval, your student(s) will have to pay for meals starting Thursday, October, 1st.

School Attendance for 2026-2027
Maryland Law requires that a written excuse be provided each time that your child is absent. The excuse should include the date of the absence, your child’s first and last name, and the reason for the absence. Please either send in a handwritten note or you can email MYES.Attendance@fcps.org.
Absences considered lawful and therefore excused, as described in the Public School Laws and Code of Bylaws of the Maryland State Board of Education, are:
Illness of the student
Death in the immediate family
Court summons
Hazardous weather condition
Work or activity accepted by the school authorities
Observance of religious holiday up to 3 days
State emergency
Suspension
Lack of authorized transportation
Health exclusion
Other emergency (judgment of Superintendent or designee)
FCPS attendance policies will be fully implemented and parent notification will be sent for any student who is on track to becoming or is already deemed chronically absent or tardy. Notification will begin at 5 days and when a student accumulates 10 or more absences within the school year. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason- both lawful and unlawful. This amounts to 18 absences total in a single school year.
