The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS)

The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS)

The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) is administered every three years in grades 5-12 and is the primary source of comprehensive data on young people at the state, county, and local level in Minnesota and is the only consistent source of statewide data on their health and wellbeing. It provides valuable information about issues vital to the health, safety, and academic success of young people. The survey is voluntary, confidential, and anonymous on the part of students.

Northfield schools will administer the 2025 survey during the week of 3/7/2025 in grades 5-12.

Federal law requires schools to make the Minnesota Student Survey available for parents to review in person at our school. Please contact your student’s school to make arrangements to review the survey questions.

For additional parent information, click here for English and Spanish. This survey is voluntary. You may choose to have your child not take the survey by completing the online form below. Students may also decline to take any part of the survey or the whole survey. They are informed of that option by staff when taking the survey.

If you do not want your child to take the Minnesota Student Survey, please click here to complete this opt out form online by Thursday February 24, 2022.

Parent-Teacher Conferences offer us a great opportunity to engage in important dialog about the progress of our students. The NHS Staff will host parent-teacher conferences from 3:30 -7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 24th. I have included a few things to think about in preparation for a successful conference with your child's teachers. Please take the time to preview Skyward grades and chat with your child to determine which teachers you'd like to conference with in a couple of weeks.

Date: Monday, February 24

Place: Upper and Lower Cafeterias unless otherwise specified.

Time: 3:30-7:30 pm.

Report Cards: Parents should access students schedules and grades on Skyward.

Conference Structure: Limit your conferences to approximately 5 minutes.

Traditional Parent Teacher Conferences will be CAFETERIA-STYLE DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS. Please plan for on/about 5 minutes. Individual conferences may be requested by teacher or parent/caregiver throughout the school year per the 4 hour reallocation from family engagement. Tables are set up with each teacher’s name posted and arranged in alphabetical order. A diagram will be shared prior to the night of conferences.

Dear NHS Staff, Students and Families,

We have completed one of three budget planning team meetings. The team will meet two additional times in February in preparation for the Community-wide forum on March 11th. We are brainstorming ideas and reaffirming our priorities in the budget reduction process. Additionally, there are community input sessions scheduled for March 5 & 6 during the school day. To align with the school board timeline, we will have recommendations to share with the board prior to the April 14th meeting. This is going to be a challenging process in route to reducing $6 million from our general fund budget.

On a brighter note, our students are doing a fantastic job of charging through February. Third quarter midterm is scheduled for next Friday, February 21st. Our winter activities teams are finishing strong with hockey, swimming and wrestling progressing well into post season play. Go Raiders!

We will continue to work hard to create, support and nurture a culture of leadership and excellence at NHS. Please reach out to teachers, counselors and administration if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Shane Baier

NHS Principal
