From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
I hope you are currently enjoying the relaxing, three-day weekend!
Congratulations again to the SOTW on their performance at Boone HS Friday evening. It's so great to have the opportunity to perform in the same stadium that we will have Marching MPA coming up soon.
Special shout-out and thank you to some parent volunteers who fill critical roles each football game afternoon and evening:
- Christina Armendariz and Beth Lybarger for feeding the Band
- Vanessa Flemming and Jenniffer Randolph for helping the Band look sharp for their performance
- Jennifer Mullins for coordinating the amazing team of parent chaperones
- Laura Cambridge for coordinating the Band Booster Board and keeping everything running smoothly
Congratulations to Mrs. Bitters, Mrs. Lubaroff, and the Wind Symphony students who make up the Orchestra Winds and Percussion on their performance at the Fall Orchestra Concert at Edgewater HS on Thursday, 10/9. A cool change to collaborate with our peers!
Saturday, Jazz Ensemble I performed at the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival in Downtown Winter Park for their first concert of the school year. They had a great, crowd-pleasing performance preparing six charts for their hour-long set. Great work!
A couple highlights from me for the week ahead:
- Friday's performance will take us to Ocoee HS. It will be great to hang out with our friends in the OHS band!
- THIS Saturday, October 18 we will join up with our friends in the bands from Freedom HS, Apopka HS, Horizon HS, Ocoee HS, Dr. Phillips HS, and West Orange HS at WOHS for the annual West Side Showcase. This is by far one of my favorite events of the whole school year. For those who haven't been to the Showcase before, it is a non-competitive, no rating, super supportive pre-MPA style event. We will bring in a few FBA trained adjudicator’s whose sole purpose will be to provide feedback on ways to improve our shows going into Marching MPA. Each band will get to perform for all the other bands and then have a short clinic time with wind, percussion and guard adjudicators on the field after their show. SOTW performs Spanish Images at 6:45 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website. Special this year The West Side Showcase will conclude with a performance by the FSU Marching Chiefs!
- Student who signed up for the "Marching Chiefs Experience" on the morning of October 18 and their families should consult the itinerary on the Band website.
- Last, but certainly not least, please read all the thank-yous and important updates from our Band Booster Board below in this newsletter. Thank you Band Booster Board for your time and dedication to the Band program!!
Looking ahead at our Band calendar:
- Thursday, October 30 is a big annual event for our Band program - it's SENIOR NIGHT! Please join us at the home football game Friday evening as we celebrate the "first last" for the Class of 2024 at their final regular season home football game. This is one of my favorite nights of each year, and so many special memories will be made for our seniors and their families.
- Our journey with Spanish Images completes at Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 1 at Boone HS. This performance culminates the students' hard work and journey creating this show from Band Camp until now. This is another one of my favorite days of the school year, and I can't wait to see where the show ends up for this performance! Performance time is 6:20 PM and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente
All-County Band & Jazz Auditions
Auditions for the 2025-2026 OCPS All-County Bands and Jazz Ensembles are scheduled for Monday, November 17. Students auditioning for All-County Band and/or Jazz will be able to register for their auditions in the coming weeks. Instructions for signup will be send in future messages. Students may audition on as many instruments as they feel confident preparing audition materials.
All-County Band Audition Materials
Concert Uniform Accessories Order: Available 10/15 - 10/22
With our first concerts approaching in November, the Band will be placing a bulk order of Concert Uniform Accessories. As explained on the Uniform Accessory Information sheet from Band Registration Night, students are responsible for providing all parts of the concert uniform that are not either the tuxedo jacket and pants or concert dress. Tux jackets and pants along with the dresses are owned by the school and lent to students each year. To make obtaining those accessories easy for our families, the Band program will make a bulk order next week through our supplier. You are not required to use our supplier; however, they will most likely give you the best deal and there are no shipping costs.
To complete the Concert Tuxedo:
- Black wing tipped tuxedo shirt - $30.00
- Black bow tie - $5.00
- Black cummerbund - $10.00
OR
- Package of all three (shirt, tie, cummerbund) - $45.00
You will also need black dress shoes (completely black dress shoes, not your marching band shoes) and black dress socks. Shoes and socks are provided by the student.
To complete the Concert Dress:
- Faux pearl earrings – pierced ears - $7.00
- Faux pearl earrings – non-pierced ears - $8.00
- Faux pearl necklace - $15.00
You will also need closed-toe black dress shoes. Most choose to wear a simple black flat with the dress, but you may also choose to wear a short heel.
Items will appear on SchoolCash Wednesday, 10/15 and be available until Wednesday, 10/22. The order must be placed by 10/22 in order to be here in time for our performance. Keep in mind, students who are wearing a tuxedo have already been sized for their black tuxedo shirt during uniform fittings earlier in the school year.
From our Band Booster President
The remainder of October will be a very fun and busy time of year as we reach the end of marching season and the students show off what they have learned. This week we have a football game at Ocoee followed by the West Side Showcase (also known as pre-MPA) at West Orange.
In preparation for the October events, the next zoom Q&A will be this Tuesday at 8pm. Bring any questions you have, and I will be discussing West Side Showcase, Trunk or Treat, Senior Night, Spirit Boxes and Marching MPA.

There is a lot happening in the next few weeks! Make sure your student is getting enough sleep and enough nutrition to ensure a strong performance.

From our Fundraising Chair
On Wednesday this week, we will be officially kicking off our next fundraiser in time for the holiday season!
There is additional info added below from the Cut Time message sent Wednesday. Registration for the fundraiser starts TODAY--see link below to get started--it only takes a few minutes to register.
What: Instead of our long-standing tradition of selling Butter Braid for our fall fundraiser this year, which is no longer available, we will be selling Lucky Goat brand coffee from the gourmet coffee company founded in Florida.
Profit: Unlike the other fundraisers we've done where the band splits the profits with participating students, the profit from this fundraiser goes 100% to the participating student's band account. Each 10oz. bag of gourmet coffee or each box of pods will sell for $20 and the student receives $8. That's a 40% return to the student, which is excellent!
When: Lucky Goat Coffee sales will run from October 15th-October 29th (2 weeks) and the coffee will be ready for students to pick up and distribute to their buyers before Thanksgiving break. There will be an option for buyers to ship-to- home, see below.
How it will work: This fundraiser is an online sale, which provides accurate accounting, makes ordering easier and offers ship-to-home. Students will enter their contacts (they can use the same contacts as with WiddyUP) when they create their account on the platform and the platform will send out 5 automated emails. There is also an option to text fundraiser reminders. Ship-to-home orders will be fulfilled around the time the orders arrive at school for distribution to students and, therefore, will not be shipped at the time of purchase. Instead, those orders will be shipped in mid-November.
Here is the link to register: https://instaraise.com/winterparkhs/band/volunteers/register
Please update the student's fundraising page with a photo and personalized message.
Once registered, your student will receive a link to their own personal fundraising page. Families and friends can share their student's personal fundraising link with anyone, including businesses.
Why participate: Funds raised go directly into your student's band account to help cover fair share and can be used even for travel during next year's band trip. Funds in student accounts rollover year to year, until graduation.
Who to sell it to: Friends, family and colleagues, of course! But you can also offer the coffee to businesses that provide a coffee bar for their employees and special customers and to businesses and organizations that give gifts to favored customers, clients and donors (think nonprofits). The coffee also makes a great addition to gift baskets, so think ahead for the holidays or upcoming birthdays and celebrations in the next few months!
Bonus: Students that arrive at school on Wednesday with their account already set up and at least 6 contacts entered will receive their choice of candy or a coupon for a free Wendy's Frosty!
Extra Bonus: Students who pre-register and have raised $50 by kick-off will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card!
Warm regards,
Robyn Fodor

"Step Up" Your Sound with Intermediate/Professional Instruments
This time of year, many families consider purchasing a higher quality instrument for their student. While the rental instruments or student instruments many students had during middle school served them well during that time, high school music and musicians need instruments with higher quality make and materials to continue to improve. Please especially do not buy an instrument for your student from discount websites like Amazon. We music teachers refer to instruments sold on those websites as ISOs - Instrument Shaped Objects.
If you are able and considering a "step-up" instrument for your student (sometimes referred to as "intermediate" or "professional" instruments by manufacturers), please feel free to reach out for guidance. We will be happy to point you in the right direction and give options for quality instruments at fair prices.

Music Shack - 702 S US Hwy 17 92, Longwood, FL 32750

Private Lessons - Invest in Your Future!
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
