Attendance reminders
Students can enter the building at 8:00 am for a free breakfast in our cafeteria. Students should establish lifelong good habits by arriving at school on time! Students should arrive in homeroom between 8:10-8:20 am with attendance is posted daily at 8:20 am. Students arriving after 8:20 am are tardy!!
Please notify us in advance of all dismissals in writing or by telephone call. Allow at least one hour advance notice. Maria Weston Chapman is a very large school, and our students travel throughout the day. Please have photo identification when picking up your child. So that students aren't missing out on learning time please do not ask to have your child waiting for your arrival. Students will be called for dismissal upon parent/guardian arrival after identification is verified, no exceptions.
All absences should be reported to the Main Office by calling 781-337-4500 by 8:30 am. Messages can be left on the attendance line at any time, including during non-school hours. Please leave a detailed message with the student's first and last name with the nature of the absence. Doctors' notes can be emailed to Valerie.Giannandrea@weymouthps.org in the Health Office.
Thank you for your partnership and support of our school community!
Transportation
Most transportation questions can be answered by visiting our website ww.weymouthschools.org and clicking on the bus icon. You can expect to pay $235 for each student with a maximum total fee of $590 for each family.
Your fee can be reduced by completing the Free and Reduced Lunch Application below. Students receive transportation on a space available basis. Routes will fill up quickly and will close when the buses reach maximum capacity.
The Town of Weymouth has a number of road improvement and infrastructure projects underway, many of which are impacting our school transportation schedule. We thank you for your patience as we work to navigate these delays .
Please Complete the Informational Application for free and reduced lunch
We want to update you with exciting news about universal free school meals. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to extend free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students.
Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2022-2023 school year.
We encourage you to complete the online application, or a paper application, on the food services webpage: https://www.weymouthschools.org/district/food-services/pages/free-and-reduced-application-and-information
We strongly encourage all families to submit this application as it allows us to establish eligibility for P-EBT benefits, other fees within the district, and serve families most effectively. In addition, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. More SNAP information can be found at gettingsnap.org or by calling Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.
The food and nutrition department at Weymouth Public Schools thanks you for your patience awaiting this news! As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide nourishing and healthy meals to all Weymouth students so please reach out to Liz Sauro, Food Service Director at elizabeth.sauro@weymouthps.org with any questions or concerns.

Welcome back to a new school year! I hope your summer was filled with good times with friends and family. We are excited for September 6th and our teachers and staff are eager to meet you. All students have been assigned a team and homeroom, and we are finalizing schedules.
At Maria Weston Chapman, we are committed to creating a safe, positive culture conducive to learning for everyone. We believe students learn best in diverse inclusive settings. These settings are created by carefully balancing homerooms using information from a variety of sources including previous teachers and other various data sources. You may notice some minor schedule changes over the next few days. This is due to our efforts to balance teams and neighborhoods to ensure all are set up for success. Once finalized, changes can not be made.
Class schedules are continuing to evolve as we balance class sizes and ensure that each student has each class that is required. They will be finalized by the first day of school. Questions about your class schedule can be addressed to the school Guidance Counselors and Assistant Principals . You can access homeroom assignments by logging in to ASPEN and clicking on the MY INFO tab at the top of the page.
The first day of school is September 6th, 2022. All Maria Weston Chapman teachers, students and staff along with our amazing Wildcat Leaders will be around the building to help students get to the right place. We are all here to make sure the first day is a great one! Please note, the first day is a half day of school ending at 11:15. Our typical school day goes from 8:10 until 2:45. We encourage all students to be in their assigned homeroom by 8:10 AM for the start of morning announcements.
We hope that you enjoy the remainder of your summer vacation and that you are as excited as we are about the start of the 2022-2023 school year!

School Supplies
Unlike at the elementary level, we do not have a blanket supply list for middle school students. Each team of teachers require different materials throughout the year. We encourage families to purchase basic school supplies such as pencils, but beyond that we ask that you wait until your child meets their teachers on the first day of school.
Chapman and the High School are implementing a new technology at the start of the new school year to support time on learning and hallway monitoring.
Students who need to get a drink of water or to go to the bathroom soon will be able to ask teachers for a digital hall pass on their Chromebooks. The digital software e-hallpass is helping schools deal with social media challenges, security issues, vandalism, hall management, and much more. Currently being utilized in schools in every state.
e-hallpass allows educators and administrators to give hallway permissions to students, and to track activity in a school’s hallways. The device is intended to improve both the accountability of students and provide an additional level of security. Security staff will receive notifications about which students are using a pass, allowing them to know who should be in the halls. Students access e-hallpass via a web browser and write up a request to leave the classroom. This request includes both their planned destination and the reason they wish to leave. Students show the pass to their educator, who approves it by entering their unique pin number. When the student arrives at their destination, the receiving educator enters their pin, and the first educator receives a notification that the learner has arrived.
e-hallpass also enables administration to track data on student hallway activity. A timer tracks how long the student spent in between being checked out and checked in. Finally, staff receive alerts for students who are not checked in to their final destination, improving school security.
Students and staff will be trained in the first few days of school. We are excited to implement this technology to support our students in being the best student they can be.
