We're Getting Ready

We look forward to welcoming our Early Learners for their first day of school on Tuesday, August 22nd. Please take a few moments to read through this email for important information about the start of the school year.

If your child will be taking the bus, you should have received an email from Christie Hoffman with information about the pick-up and drop-off time for your child. If you have any bus-specific questions, please contact Christie at choffman@dps109.org.

Any other questions? Please contact Matt Zidron at mzidron@dps109.org.

Health Forms Due!

Just a friendly reminder that all health forms must be turned in to our district nurse, Mary Phelps (mphelps@dps109.org) by the first day of school.

We also encourage families to share any health concerns with your child's teacher!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures at Early Learners

Please share our procedures with any adult who may be involved in transporting your child to or from school so that they are familiar with our process as well!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times

AM Students are dropped off at 9:00 AM and picked up at 11:30 AM.

PM students are dropped off at 12:30 PM and picked up at 3:00 PM.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Location

Drop-off and pick-up both occur in the east parking lot off of Birchwood. Please pull through the lot to the area where the diagonal lines are painted and wait for your child's teacher. We use the right lane for both pick-up and drop off while the left lane is used as a passing lane. Please help us keep traffic flowing by keeping the left lane clear at all times.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

We ask that adults stay in the car during drop off time while teachers help your child out of the car to keep the process moving along while also minimizing separation challenges during this routine. During pick-up, our teachers will buckle your child into their car seat for you. We load/unload about 4 cars at a time to minimize how far children must walk through the parking lot. If the cars in front have pulled away and you are next in line, you can (carefully) pass to go to the front of the line.

Curbside Conversations

We try to keep conversations to a minimum during pick-up and drop off times. Our staff does not want to appear inconsiderate, but the primary focus during these times is the safety of our students. Please feel free to email, call, or set up an in-person meeting if you ever have any questions or concerns.

First Day Tips

The first day of school can be emotional, so we suggest doing first day of school pictures and hugs before getting into the car to leave for school. Remember that if you are calm, your child will be calm, too. You are welcome to park your car and walk up to the pick-up line at the end of the day to snap some photos after the first-day jitters have settled. We also welcome you to e-mail your child's teacher to let them know what kind of car to expect at pick-up time to expedite the process over the first couple of days.

Thank you so much for helping us make drop-off and pick-up times safe and efficient for all of our students!

Event Information

Ice Cream Social

Join your teachers and the South Park community for our annual Ice Cream Social located on the blacktop behind South Park School. This event will last until dusk, although we know many preschoolers may not last quite that long. We hope to see you there!

From 5:30-6:00, our Ice Cream Social will begin for students who may benefit from a low-sensory event. During this time, loud music will not be playing as students enjoy ice cream and mingle with their teachers and classmates. All are welcome.
