Hello Mustang Nation,

Please join me in recognizing several wonderful individuals for National School Social Worker Week (see post below). We are fortunate to have five school social workers at MHS to help support our student and staff populations.

Back by popular demand, and quite frankly because it's simply 'a whole lotta fun' - the MHS Annual March Madness Dodgeball Tournament will take place at the end of this month (see more information below).

Course Selection Process - student course selections for the 2026-2027 school year are underway. School counselors have provided course presentations to students over the past few weeks and a Google form has been shared with students to fill out that will complete their course selections. Students have been encouraged to speak with their teachers and parents/guardians as they consider choices for the coming school year. (See more information below)

A Quick Reminder: Food & Trash Protocols

We need your help! To keep MHS looking its best and to ensure we can continue allowing food throughout the building, please remember:

  1. Use the Bins: Trash cans are located in the cafeteria and all over the school—please use them!

  2. Respect the Space: If you eat on the go, ensure no crumbs or wrappers are left behind.

  3. Keep the Privilege: Food outside the cafeteria is a convenience we want to keep, but it requires 100% student cooperation.

Let's keep MHS clean! Immediate improvement is needed to avoid new restrictions on where food can be taken and/or consumed.

Take care,

-Mr. Thurlow

NATIONAL SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER WEEK!!! NATIONAL SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER WEEK!!!

Happy Social Work Appreciation Week! At MHS, we are very fortunate to have several dedicated social workers who support students in various ways.

**Matt Holt and Freddie Grunhuvd** Matt and Freddie serve as Social Workers in the Special Education department. You will often find them in classrooms leading small groups, providing support to students throughout the school, and even taking kids outside to play games like "pass" when the weather is nice. They support the emotional, social, and academic needs of over 50 MHS students, acting as the vital link between home, school, and the community for those with special services.

**Erica Brown and Meagan Desjardins** MHS is privileged to have multiple alternative education programs supported by our social workers. Erica Brown is our Day Treatment Social Worker at the East building, working with students ranging from elementary to high school. In her role, she provides individual, group, and family therapy while coordinating resources to help students successfully reintegrate into mainstream educational settings. Meanwhile, Meagan Desjardins works in our ABELS (Academical, Behavioral, Emotional Learning Support) Program and the Mustang Lab Program, assisting students with various educational barriers to develop pathways to graduation and enhance their resilience skills. Together, these two programs serve over 100 students each year. *

*Megan Wakefield and Janis Johnson** MHS shares the services of Outreach and McKinney-Vento Coordinator Megan Wakefield with all schools in the district. Although her role is spread across six schools, she continues to be a great advocate and resource for our displaced youth. You can see her passing out school supplies, winter jackets, holiday baskets, homecoming and prom dresses, and even volunteering as a cheer coach. Megan's impact is far-reaching, and we are lucky to have her as part of the MHS team. Janis Johnson is the cornerstone of our Social Work department. Having been at MHS for 35 years, she has worked with thousands of students, cheered at countless MHS sporting, music, and awards events, and supported numerous staff members during tough days. Janis is well-known for her jokes, puns, and handwritten letters of encouragement. She is an invaluable resource to our school and a crucial part of our Social Work team.

Happy Social Work Appreciation Week to Matt, Freddie, Erica, Meagan, Megan, and Janis. Our students, staff, and community are fortunate to have your support, advocacy, and dedication!

STUDENT RECOGNITION PROGAM - CONGRATULATIONS TO MAX TOUSIGNANT! STUDENT RECOGNITION PROGAM - CONGRATULATIONS TO MAX TOUSIGNANT!

We've started recognizing students who model positive behaviors in and out of the classroom. Any staff member can nominate a student who has demonstrated our core values and gone above and beyond for our school community. This week, Ms. Prentiss nominated Max Tousignant!

Ms. Prentiss writes: "Max has been on top of all his work for the entire semester. Despite having to leave early to catch the VOC bus to Sanford, he has not missed a single assignment. He is always looking for ways to improve, and has exceeded the expectations of the Astronomy class he is enrolled in. He helps out his peers when he has extra time."

2025/2026 Course Selection 2025/2026 Course Selection

About Course Selection: This week, school counselors presented to English classes to start the course selection process. During course selection, students can request courses for the next school year. Please note that these are requests; students are not guaranteed to be scheduled for all the classes that they select. MHS tries to accommodate all requests during this process, but this is not always possible.

Course selections are being completed through Google Forms. Students will receive the link to the Google Form on the day of their English class presentation. On Friday Feburary 27th, their School Counselor will send a second email with the link. Students must submit their course selections through Google Forms by March 6th.

It is recommended that students discuss their course selections and recommendations with their teachers. Parents/Guardians are highly encouraged to discuss course selections with their students. Below are some references to use as a guide. Each subject area presentation was developed by the individual departments.

(Of course, we want to avoid consequences if possible)
