Together We Rise: Updates from the Principal

11/16/2025

A Message from Dr. Delgado:

Wildcat Families,

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I find myself reflecting on what this season truly means. Every year, my family gathers together, rotating between my home and my mother’s home. This year, we will be celebrating at my mother’s house — a tradition that always fills me with anticipation and joy. I look forward to seeing familiar faces, reconnecting with family members I haven’t been able to visit with in some time, and simply sharing space with the people I love.

For me, Thanksgiving is not only a time to give thanks, but a moment to celebrate family — those who support us, ground us, and tell us the truth even when it’s hard to hear. I am deeply grateful for my own family, who keeps me steady and reminds me of what matters most.

This year, I also find myself adding all of you to that circle of family.

The work of turnaround is not easy — far from it — but somehow, together, we keep moving, keep smiling, and keep showing up for our students and for one another. I love seeing your faces each morning and throughout the day. On weekends when I’m on campus, it always brings me joy to run into a staff member and exchange a quick hello or share how things are going. I feel the same when talking with parents and students; with each conversation, I get to know you a little more, and I truly enjoy that.

Westview is rich with family, culture, unity, and strength. I am grateful and honored to be part of this community.

I wish each of you a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving break — may your week be filled with family, love, rest, and memories that carry you forward until the next holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving, Wildcats! 🦃💜

With Wildcat Pride,
Dr. Emily R. Delgado

Introducing Our New PBIS Points System! Introducing Our New PBIS Points System!

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

At Westview Middle School, we believe in celebrating the positive choices our students make every day. We are excited to announce the launch of our new PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Points System, which will begin this Tuesday!

Our PBIS system is designed to encourage and reward students for demonstrating positive behaviors across all areas of campus—classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, and dismissal areas.

Students can earn points for actions such as:

  • Engaging in academic work for at least 90% of class time (10 points)

  • Turning in all assigned work (10 points)

  • Arriving to class on time (8 points)

  • Wearing their student ID (8 points)

  • Walking safely and respectfully in the hallways (8 points)

  • Demonstrating perfect attendance for six weeks (500 points)

  • Demonstrating perfect attendance for three weeks (200 points)

A complete list of behaviors and their corresponding point values can be found in the Wildcat PBIS Points Matrix linked below.

Every student will not receive points for every behavior, but points will be distributed equitably so that all students have an equal opportunity to earn rewards. Any adult on campus can recognize a student by scanning their ID badge and awarding points instantly for demonstrating one of our identified positive behaviors.

Students will collect their points in an online system that works like a digital “bank account.” As they earn points, they can choose to spend them in the Wildcat Marketplace—a reward store featuring both small prizes and high-point items students may want to save for. A document outlining these reward options is linked below.

Please note that while this is a positive rewards system—students can never lose points—they are still responsible for their actions under the Student Code of Conduct, and negative behaviors will be addressed separately.

Encouraging positive behavior is key to building a strong and supportive school culture, and we are thrilled to bring this system to life at Westview. We can’t wait to see our Wildcats earning, saving, and celebrating their success!

Turnaround & School Improvement Update

Tomorrow, we will welcome our Region XIII representative to Westview for a Progress Monitoring Site Visit. This visit is an important part of our ongoing Turnaround Plan and serves as an opportunity to highlight the meaningful work happening across our campus each day.

During the visit, our representative will meet with campus leadership, observe classroom instruction, and engage in conversations about our strengths as well as our opportunities for continued growth. These visits provide valuable insight into how our systems and instructional practices are evolving, and they help ensure that we remain on track toward our improvement goals.

I look forward to showcasing the incredible dedication of our staff and students, as well as hearing an outside perspective on areas where we can continue to refine and strengthen our instructional framework. The findings from this visit will be shared with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and will contribute to ongoing progress monitoring for our turnaround plan.

Thank you to all of those in our learning community, for your unwavering commitment to our students and for the important work you do each day to move Westview forward.

Parent Action Required: New Consent Forms for Student Health & Counseling Services

Texas Senate Bill 12, passed by the 89th Legislature and signed into law in June 2025, now requires parents to provide written consent for students to receive health and counseling services in schools.

This law mandates:

  • Annual consent forms for routine health, social, and mental wellness services.

  • Clarification on when additional consent or opt-out is required for other health-related services.

👉 Important: At this time, all consent forms must be completed online in Skyward. On Friday, all parents should have received both an email and a text with directions for completing this process.

Please note:

  • Students will not be able to see the school counselor or nurse without this consent in place.

  • It is imperative that all parents complete this form online as quickly as possible so that students do not experience an interruption in receiving care.

We also recognize that this process may be easier for some families than others. To support you, we will be offering:

Staff will be available to help families complete these forms onsite so that every student has access to the health and counseling services they need.

Thank you for your partnership in making sure our Wildcats are cared for both academically and personally.

📱 Cell Phone Reminder

At Westview Middle School, our goal is to maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. As a reminder, cell phones are not allowed to be seen or used during the school day. This includes hallways, classrooms, and common areas.

To support consistency across the district, we will be following the PfISD Cell Phone Consequence Ladder for any violations:

OffenseConsequence

1st OffenseDevice confiscated — must be picked up by a parent or guardian.

2nd OffenseDevice confiscated and lunch detention assigned (documented in Skyward).

3rd OffenseDevice confiscated, ½ day of ISS, and a parent meeting required.

Chronic IssuesMay result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or a temporary ban on bringing the device to school.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home. When students are free from distractions, they can better focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.

💜 Go Wildcats — focused and ready to learn!

We ask for your support in reminding your child not to leave the house without their ID badge each morning. If a student has lost their badge, they should report to the office to request a replacement. Please note that replacement ID badges cost $5.00. Restroom Use During Class Time

We ask for your support in helping students value their instructional time. Restroom breaks during class should be limited to emergencies only. Each student is allotted six restroom passes per six weeks for use during class time. Students were issued a new restroom pass through their social studies classes on Monday, September 22, 2025.

As a reminder, we have increased our passing periods to four minutes to give students more time to use the restroom between classes. Students may also use the restroom during lunch, before school, and after school.

Please encourage your student to make the most of their class time by avoiding unnecessary restroom trips during instructional periods.

Community Spotlight: Trompo Network Showcases WVMS Volleyball!

We are thrilled to highlight a truly special community partnership that has brought new energy and excitement to Westview athletics! The Robledo family, through their local initiative Trompo Network, has been producing and livestreaming our Westview Middle School volleyball games — capturing the heart, talent, and teamwork of our amazing student-athletes.

Led by Mr. and Mrs. Robledo, with support from Coach Jaimie Ochoa, Trompo Network has created high-quality, ESPN-style coverage of our volleyball matches that families across the community have loved watching and sharing. This effort began simply — with a parent’s desire to celebrate their daughter’s team — and has grown into a powerful example of community pride and partnership.

So far, Trompo Network has covered exciting matchups such as:

  • Westview vs. Kelly Lane

  • Westview vs. Bohls

  • Westview vs. Dessau

You can view these games and more highlights on the Trompo Network YouTube Channel — it truly feels like watching ESPN!

We are so grateful to the Robledo family for their time, talent, and dedication to uplifting Westview athletics, and to Coach Ochoa for leading such an inspiring program. Their collaboration beautifully reflects what makes our Wildcat community so special — teamwork, pride, and a shared commitment to our students’ success both on and off the court.

We invite all families to take a moment to check out the highlight reels and cheer on our Wildcats — you’ll be amazed by the energy and excitement of our volleyball program!

  • All A's

  • All A's and B's

  • Perfect Attendance

In addition to academic and attendance achievements, we also honored students with the Wildcat Spirit Award — a special recognition for those who exemplify the true characteristics of a Westview Wildcat. These students consistently work hard, show integrity, and always strive to “do the right thing.”

We are incredibly proud of every student who received an award. Your effort, perseverance, and leadership truly shine, and we applaud the hard work that led to these achievements. Keep aiming high, Wildcats — we can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! 🎉📚💜

Theater Arts Spotlight: “Over the River and Through the Woods”

Last week, our Theater Department treated students and staff to a wonderful performance of Over the River and Through the Woods, and it was truly a delight to experience! The cast and stage crew showcased remarkable talent, dedication, and heart, delivering a production that was both engaging and impressively polished.

We were blown away by the level of professionalism demonstrated on stage and behind the scenes. From the acting and timing to the set transitions and overall presentation, it was clear that countless hours of hard work and creativity went into bringing this play to life.

A huge congratulations to the entire cast, the stage crew, and—of course—to Ms. West for directing and guiding such an exceptional production. Your passion for the arts shines brightly, and we appreciate the joy you brought to our campus community.

We all thoroughly enjoyed it! Bravo, Wildcats! 🎭💜

Honoring our Veterans Honoring our Veterans

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Last week, Westview proudly recognized Veterans Day, a moment to honor the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation’s Armed Forces. We are deeply thankful for the freedoms we enjoy each day because of their commitment and willingness to serve.

We are especially grateful for our very own Wildcat veterans:

  • Mr. Jackson

  • Mr. Barriga

  • Mr. Aguilar

We thank each of them for their service, leadership, and continued dedication to our campus community.

In addition to recognizing our staff veterans, we also honored the loved ones of our Westview team who have bravely served our country:

  • Nurse Rupley’s husband served in the U.S. Air Force as a Crew Chief on the C-40s for four years.

  • Ms. Christian’s family includes several veterans:

    • Her husband, David Schlamp, served in the Army National Guard and completed one tour in Iraq in 2011.

    • Her sister, Andrea LeBar, served in the U.S. Army from 2004–2008, including a tour in Iraq in 2006.

    • Her brother-in-law, Tim LeBar, served in the U.S. Army from 2004–2017, completing two tours in Iraq (2006 and 2009). Andrea and Tim are pictured below at a military ball.

    • Her brother, Roarke Christian, served in the Army National Guard.

    • Her father-in-law, Michael Schlamp, served a full career in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, including numerous deployments and eight years stationed in Germany.

  • Ms. Castillo honors two important veterans in her life: her stepfather, Pedro Guevara, and her close friend, Amy Wright — both served in the U.S. Air Force. Both are pictured below.

  • Ms. Guzman de Peña’s father served seven years as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, and was deployed to Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. He is pictured below.

I also hold a deep personal connection to this day:

  • My grandfather proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and

  • My father served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War.

I carry immense appreciation for the sacrifices made not only by our veterans but by their families who stand beside them through every deployment, transition, and challenge.

To all of our veterans and their loved ones — thank you. Your bravery, service, and sacrifice inspire us and remind us of the true meaning of honor.
