School beautification by Micron volunteers
zoom_out_map

Dear Cedar Point Families,

I would like to thank volunteers from Micron Technology, Inc., who assisted with spreading mulch, planting flowers, and beautifying our school during Spring Break. It was our goal to create a welcoming environment for families, staff and students, returning to school as we embrace the warm spring weather.

We also appreciate our PTO for hosting a successful Bingo Night! Families experienced an enjoyable evening with lots of prizes.

Thank you to our outstanding Advisory Council for their swift accomplishments this school year. The Council has met regularly and informed about updates to our school, construction progress and budget planning process.

Teacher Appreciation Week will be celebrated May 5-9. We have partnered with our PTO to honor our fabulous teachers every day next week. Together, we are excited to praise their tremendous work and demonstrate how grateful we are for their positive influence on students.

I wish to offer my sincerest praise to you, our families, for your unwavering commitment this school year. If I ever may be of assistance, I welcome you to contact me.

Yours In Education,

Aerica A. Williams, M.Ed., Principal

Cheetah Chorus performance at our Fine Arts Night

Our Champion Cheetah families joined together on April 29 to celebrate the arts at Cedar Point for our Spring Fine Arts Night. The hallways were full of families exploring the art show, lining up to purchase new books at the Scholastic book fair, and enjoying a fantastic performance by our Cheetah Chorus!

We want to thank our Encore teachers, especially Mrs. Garber, Mrs. Ro, Ms. D'Amato and Mrs. LaFleur, for all of their hard work to make Fine Arts Night a huge success! Our art show featured a piece of artwork by every K-5 student in a beautiful display, dozens of reading enthusiasts filled the library during the book fair, and our 4th and 5th grade Cheetah Chorus students shared their musical talents with a packed audience!

Thank you to all of the families and staff who came out to support the arts at Cedar Point!

Pre-K

We have been working hard, wrapping up this Pre-K school year! Our students also had so much fun participating in the school's Purple Up parade during April's Month of the Military Child celebration and did an amazing job cheering on our military-connected students and families!

Kindergarten

Our kindergarteners enjoyed participating in science rotations in April. Students had the opportunity to perform various experiments on marshmallow Peeps, investigating how they react to water and vinegar. They were able to smell the liquids to identify which was which, then observed how the Peeps' size, color, etc., changed in each substance and whether they would sink or float.

1st Grade

We've had a wonderful start to spring and the fourth quarter. This month, first graders had the opportunity to use their creativity as they cared for their "pet" Peep. Students named their Peep, wrote stories about their Peep and even made their Peep a house with graham crackers, jellybeans, sprinkles and icing! As May approaches, we're looking forward to the third annual First Grade VIP Tea Celebration!

2nd Grade

In April, our second graders worked on fractions and addition/subtraction story problems in math, learned about magnets in science, and civics - principles and traditions in social studies. In language arts, our students practiced their poetry, letter writing, inferencing and problems/solutions.

In May, we are looking forward to visiting the Tech Lab!

Check out some of our second graders working hard on their bunny paintings and Lakota writing on "buffalo skins."

3rd grade preparing for the SOLs
zoom_out_map

3rd Grade

Third grade is gearing up for SOLs! Here are some tips to help your student crush their first time testing:

  • Go to bed early: Getting a good night's sleep the night before is really important.

  • Eat a good breakfast: Please make sure the breakfast is healthy and low in sugar. This helps to keep their brain going for the whole duration of the test.

  • Pack your bag the night before: We are asking all students to bring a snack, water bottle, and a sweater for the test.

  • Study basic facts and skills: Leading up to the test, study a little every night to practice what it means to be prepared to do your best.

  • Try your best: Testing is hard, and we know how mentally taxing it can be on the students. Just continue to encourage them to do their best.

Mr. Jim Reagan from the NOAA presents to 4th graders about Ocean Environments
zoom_out_map

4th Grade

Our Jamestown field trip was a success! We had beautiful weather while students got to experience all the cultures that we have been learning about with the Jamestown Settlement. Thank you to the parent chaperones that joined us for the day and all the parents that helped with the early drop off at school and pick up when we returned.

Fourth graders enjoyed learning about Ocean Environments during Science. We ended our unit with a visit from Mr. Jim Reagan who works for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). He shared his expertise with our students regarding tides, currents, salinity, trenches and ocean temperatures.

We are currently doing our last math unit before our whole year review. Students are mastering being able to estimate and solve 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication, estimate and solve for the quotient of two whole numbers, solving and justifying single and multistep contextual problems with multiplication and division, and lastly being able to interpret the quotient and remainder when solving a contextual problem.

Special Education

Our first annual Neurodiversity Night for Cedar Point special education families was a great success on April 24! The event gave parents specific resources, experiences and tools that can be used and practiced at home. We also highlighted some of the amazing things happening in our SPED department, such as a LAMP AAC Demo, Cheetah Café and Learning Lab, and gave parents a chance to make sensory take-home materials. Local businesses and PWCS community partners were also invited to share resources and support our families. Thank you to everyone who participated in and attended this event!
