WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE LJH LIBRARY?
This month, the Media Center has been bustling with activity and discovery!
A total of 887 individual students visited the library, mostly to select books, work independently, or participate in our popular Lunch Bunch program. Perhaps most exciting, 890 books were checked out by eager readers this month!
Additionally, multiple classes have taken advantage of the Media Center’s flexible learning space for research, collaboration, and lesson extensions through the broadcasting studio. For example, in Mr. Herr’s history class, students became journalists, correspondents, and producers as they worked in teams to:
Research key facts and perspectives on their selected Civil War topic
Plan and write a concise, engaging 60–90 second news script
Outline their scene and determine team roles
Film their segment in the school’s broadcasting studio
Edit their final product in iMovie, adding effects as needed
Last, but certainly not least, December promises even more excitement with the launch of our “It’s a Holly Jolly Verse-mas!” Throughout the month, students can celebrate the holiday season by exploring the joy of poetry and novels written in verse. For students who enjoy graphic novels, verse novels are a perfect bridge to traditional novels; they’re fast-paced, engaging, and full of emotion. Stop by the Media Center all December to pick a book written in verse, experience its unique rhythm and storytelling, and share your thoughts on a “Verse Reflection” card. Students who return their reflection cards by January 14th will receive a special edition “Verse-Marker” and be entered into a prize drawing.
Get ready for a holly, jolly reading adventure that’s sure to warm your winter!
