Student Council Classroom Representative Information! Student Council Classroom Representative Information!

Dear 4th and 5th Grade Parents and Students,

We will be holding the Scott Elementary Student Council Classroom Representative elections this year on September 20th. Student Council Officers were elected in May from our past Student Council. We will elect up to 22 classroom representatives from the 4th and 5th grade classrooms.

Student Council is an organization that promotes citizenship, scholarship, leadership, and school spirit as it fosters the development of the future leaders of our schools, cities, state, and country. Student Council also supports service learning as projects are planned to benefit the students, teachers, and the community.

Student Council membership will be open to the 4th and 5th-grade students. The representatives will be elected from the 4th and 5th grade classrooms with at least 1 boy and 1 girl representing their classroom. If we only have one student running for the position, then we would only have one student. Because Student Council members and officers are leaders on our campus, they are role models for other students; therefore, they must exhibit leadership characteristics. Elections for classroom representatives will be done in their homeroom classroom and only the students/teachers in their class will vote for their representative.

Students must apply to the Student Council. After the application has been received, I will email the homeroom teacher for a recommendation on the student. The teacher's recommendation is a point system that will help balance out the elections. They can receive points for coming to school on time, having leadership skills, and being responsible.

The students will complete a campaign poster to be displayed in the cafeteria. All posters must be positive. Please do not attach candy or food to the posters. Students should not spend more than $10.00 on their posters. Posters are due by September 13th but the sooner the better. Classroom Representatives elections will be held on September 20th. Remember, you are not running for an officer position, please put your homeroom teacher’s name on your poster.

Student Council Meetings will be held on the 2nd Monday of every Month from 3:10 pm - 4:00 pm. If we find that we need more time, we could meet on an additional day after school. Bus transportation is not available for Student Council and students need to either walk home or have transportation whether with a parent or an approved adult. I have attached an application for your student to apply for Student Council through Google Forms and a picture of you is requested for the form. We are very excited about this upcoming year and the opportunity to serve as the Student Council Representative for Anita Scott Elementary School. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Please follow us on Facebook at Scott Student Council for more details.

Sincerely,

Kristin Helt

Arrival Procedures

ARRIVAL:

FRONT OF BUILDING:

Walkers, Daycares, and Buses ONLY

Do not drop off in the front of the building!

BACK OF BUILDING:

There will be two lines for drop off.

Your child may begin to exit their vehicles as you enter the awning area if you are in the interior lane. Some staff will be available to assist but it runs more smoothly and quickly if your child can open their own door and get out.

A staff member will assist your student out of the car if you are in the outside lane. They will then be walked to a central location and a crossing guard will stop vehicles to get them across.

Adults will be outside to ensure your child is safe and will happily open vehicle doors of any student whom needs assistance.

Dismissal Procedures

DISMISSAL:

If you need to make Dismissal Changes those need to be made by calling the front office by 2:00PM or there is a strong chance your student will go home the way they normally do.

FRONT OF BUILDING:

Bus and Walkers ONLY

WALKERS:

Walkers will not gather at the bike racks (in front of the building) for parents meeting their children. Teachers will escort them in a line out the building to the crosswalk. Please wait across the street for your child. Older siblings (Gr4-5) may wait by the bike racks for their younger sibling before crossing the crosswalks.

BACK OF BUILDING:

The gate will open at 2:20. Please form two lines when entering. You will be given a name/number sign to put around your front mirror. Two staff members will greet you each day and use that code to line the students in order. All students will be brought to your vehicle by an adult. The gate will close at 3:20. **Subject to change after tightening up dismissal procedures**

**For both drop off and pickup; please enter from Erby Campbell; there is no way for you to join the drop off/pickup line if you enter from the service road**

Attendance Procedures

After each absence please send in a paper note or email to Heather Wadsworth at heather.wadsworth@rcisd.org.

5 days unexcused absence - parents will have to sign an attendance contract

7 days unexcused absence - parents will have to attend an attendance committee meeting

10 days unexcused absence - truancy will be filed with the county

Please send in those notes so that we can get those unexcused absences changed to excused! At this age attendance is not a student responsibility but a parent responsibility so please ensure your children are at school when they are healthy!

At Scott we SHINE

Students will have the opportunity to earn SHINE slips again this year! When they earn them the student will go on a bingo board. When that BINGO has 15 in a row those students will earn a prize and the BINGO board will start over. So - the more SHINE slips you earn the better your chances!

Scott Elementary "House" System

This year we will continue implementing our house system on campus. This will allow us to have some friendly competitions and create community across the different classes and grade levels. Returning students will continue in the same houses. New students will spin a wheel to determine their "house"! New students will then come home with a bracelet in that color. When we do "House Rallies" we will have students dress up in their colors!
