MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Eagles and Families,
Joy is a feeling of happiness. As it pertains to education, joy should be the ultimate goal of teaching and learning. Educator and scholar Dr. Gholdy Muhammad defines joy as a sustained effort to recognize the beauty of and within the earth and come together for advocacy to make the world better (Muhammad, 2023). When conditions are created to foster joy, our students experience beauty, empowerment, positive mental health, and a deeper connection to their learning. Our Colloquium days are a prime opportunity to see student joy in action. The Latine’ and Hispanic Heritage Assembly is another example of how joy can cultivate student agency, pride, and leadership. The Student Voice Committee (SVC) organized a Staff vs Student Volleyball Game that deepened connections and relationships between students and adults. We hope to continue capturing student-led opportunities for joy, particularly during the holiday season when many students experience sadness.
Our current moment of joy comes from our high-achieving students. We wish to congratulate the 421 students from grades 7-12 who have made the 1st Quarter Honor Roll. 95 students earned ALL A's; 326 earned ONLY As & Bs. Please see the link to review 2024-2025 - 1st Quarter Honor Roll. We’d love to see more Eagles on the list and they will be honored during an assembly at the end of semester 1.
Sincerely,
Lindblom Administration

Starting second semester, students with an unweighted GPA of 3.0 after 7 semesters can qualify for college-ready coursework without having to take a placement exam or have the requisite SAT score. Please consider if you have students who can take advantage of this increased opportunity to participate in early college coursework and if this new qualifier would make additional spring dual credit coursework more feasible.

BE EMPOWERED
Fall Cultivate Administration 10/30 - 11/15
The Cultivate Survey will close on Friday. We currently have 6% of our student population showing as completed. In order for us to receive any feedback, we must achieve at least 50% completion. We strived to have this as a homework assignment for parents and students, but we're cutting so close to the deadline that our next attempt will be to have students complete it in their advisory on colloquium day. Parents may still support by asking their student to show them that they completed the survey. Students will receive an email to acknowledge completion like the shown image.
This is the student survey link: https://survey.5-essentials.org/cps-fall24/
If it is giving you an error message, please try: http://survey.5-essentials.org/cps-fall24/survey/student/
Either link should work and take students directly to their log-in page. Students will need to enter their student ID and birth date to take the survey.
SMART Scholarship
This is a scholarship opportunity for our undergraduate and graduate Eagles: Deadline: December 1, 2024 • Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship: –This scholarship for service program gives undergraduate and graduate students a full scholarship and guarantee of employment upon degree completion. –See more: https://www.smartscholarship.org/smart

SAFETY UPDATE
It’s the time of year when the days are getting shorter and darkness comes early. For the safety of our students, we’re reminding you that our building closes at 5:30 pm. We often find students hanging around to mingle with friends and then they walk to the bus stop alone. We don’t recommend this behavior and we are concerned about it.
With the holiday season approaching, we'd like to give you a heads up that our building will close at 4:00 pm on November 22nd. Please make transportation arrangements that will support the time of our building closure.

BE ENGAGED
She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Lindblom History Project
🦅📕📚Shout out to Mr. Roy Pearson (Sw68p), Mr. Dudek, and the thousands of Lindblom alumni who contributed to the Lindblom History Project. 📚📕🦅 👏🏾🦅For the first time in the history of Chicago Public Schools, a high school has commercially published the first of a three volume micro and macro centennial history of the years 1919-2019 in Chicago, from the perspective of the former students, faculty and administrators who were in residence at Lindblom during those years.🦅👏🏾 Do you want a copy? Go to: bit.ly/LindblomHP_V1 The 457-page first volume (1919-1969), researched and written by the 92-alumni Lindblom History Project, is the first of the three volume history to be published. Volume II (1970-2019) will be published in 2025 and Volume III (select essays, pictures and charts looking back over the entire 100 years) will be published in 2026.
Attendance
Our week 11 attendance ended with 91.66%. As a reminder, students that are late to first and/or fifth periods will count towards their 5 tardies in a week. The attendance policy is included here. We will also celebrate our students that maintain 95% or better attendance. Feel free to email Mr. Hayes, our attendance coordinator, if there are questions about your attendance, bdhayes2@cps.edu.
