Heights Happenings
Eastern Heights Elementary School, October 2025
Dear Eastern Heights Families,
Happy October! đ The leaves are changing, the morning air is crisp, and our school is buzzing with excitement and learning. Itâs hard to believe we are already moving into the heart of the fall season!
Here are a few important updates and upcoming events for this month:
đ Fall Fun & Festivities
Weâre planning a variety of fun, safe, and seasonal activities throughout the month:
Fall Family Night: Mark your calendars for our annual Fall Learning Night on Wednesday, October 8th from 4:30â6:00 PM. There will be fun learning activities and PTO will be selling cider and donuts!
- Costume Parade: On Friday, October 31, students are invited to wear costumes to school for our afternoon parade through Eastern Heights Middle School. Costumes must be school-appropriate (no masks or weapons). Classroom parties will follow the parade; information about your child's classroom activities will be shared by the teacher.
đ Learning Highlights
Our students are diving deep into reading, writing, and problem-solving! This month, weâre:
- Celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 27 - 31 with a classroom door decorating contest.
- Cheering on our 3rd graders as they take the Fall Reading OST on October 14 & 15. Keys for successful test taking include getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.
- Focusing on literacy growth, so be sure to read together at home every nightâeven 15 minutes makes a big difference!
đȘ Parent-Teacher Conferences
We look forward to connecting with you during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 20. These meetings are a great opportunity to hear about your childâs progress and ask any questions you may have. Your child's classroom teacher will reach out to you regarding signing up.
đ Thank You!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Your involvement makes a big difference in your childâs learning journey. Please donât hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful October!
Warmly,
Mrs. Brenda Wittman
Principal
A Note from Mrs. Adams
Hello Families,
It is hard to believe that we are already moving toward the end of the first quarterâthis school year is flying by! Our studentsâ learning has been in full swing, and it has been such a joy to see the growth and progress happening each day.
As part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) work, we have been focusing on building a positive school community. This month, students have been practicing the importance of using kind words with one another and showing respect in their daily interactions. They are also working on building consistency with coming to school each day, which helps create strong routines for learning and success.
We are proud of the effort our students are putting into both their academics and their behavior expectations. Thank you for reinforcing these important skills at home and for being our partners in helping every child succeed.
Warmly,
Cori Adams
Assistant Principal

EASTERN HEIGHTS CAMPUS TRAFFIC
Campus traffic rules are in place to keep all students and staff safe during arrival and dismissal times. We appreciate you honoring these rules to keep everyone safe!
- Drive slowly and stay alert while on campus; refrain from cell phone use while driving on campus
- Drive slowly and follow all building staff directions while driving on campus
- Use crosswalks when walking your children to & from the building
- Cars must not stop in a crosswalk; while cars are waiting to move, crosswalks must be free for people to cross
- Cars should enter campus for drop off and pick up at the Prospect/Cornell entrance and follow the ring road around campus. Using this entrance allows the smoothest flow of traffic.
- There is no parking in the pickup lane during drop off or dismissal; this helps the flow of traffic move smoothly
- Cars should make only 1 lane of traffic on the campus (inside lane closest to the building); do not pull out and pass cars that are in the pick-up lane
- Cars should refrain from entering the bus lane on the north side of the building; this lane is used for all ECS busses as well as all daycare and after school program vans.
- Drop-off & pickup your student using the spaces between the 2 orange cones directly in front of the building
Thank you for helping us make drop-off & pickup safety the #1 priority!

Safety Drills
With safety as a top priority of the Eastern Heights Campus staff, we want you to be aware that you may see us outside practicing a drill as we start the school year. Please remember to drive slowly and/or stop to allow the drill to proceed safely. And, be sure to have your student dress appropriately for the weather and know that we practice these drills with all our students to keep everyone safe!
