Board Meetings
Board Meetings are the last Thursday of the Month.
The location for meetings for this year will be at Lynda's house or via Zoom.
If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member.
Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.
Tidbits from the President
I’m back. I spent the last several months in Austin, caring for my new grandson (over 5 months old now). I will miss them…but I’m glad to be home. I’ve missed my bed, my sewing room, my friends and most of all my husband. So, time to get back to normal.
The quilt show is less than 2 months away! So it’s time to finish and prep those quilt entries. It’s also time to sign up for classes (please have a look while there are still openings). And definitely sign up to volunteer. The links are in the NTQF section below. Remember it takes a lot of people to make this show great.
See ya at the June meeting.

Program this Month
Sharon & Loren Wilhelm Lecture: Sashings Bold and Dangerous
June 2024 Program
Sharon is an award-winning quilter, teacher and entrepreneur, successfully running Country Collectibles and Sharon's Quilt Depot retail stores. After retiring from the retail business, Sharon became the co-owner of Quilt Ideas with her husband Loren.
Programs
June Workshop on Saturday, June 22, 2024; 9:00am – 3:00pm. We will be making a Barn Quilt using Crayons & Embroidery with a Barn Quilt in Summer pattern.
Join us with Sharon Wilhelm to make your barn quilt picture on a nice sized quilt block. Sharon will guide us in using Crayons to create a barn quilt picture.
Sharon also has patterns for the 4 seasons, and other patterns in the series to allow you to make any size quilt project. Patterns available at the workshop.
For more information about Sharon, see Quilt Ideas. Stop by the Program desk to sign up and pay for your Workshop. Workshop is $35 for members and $45. for non-members.
WORKSHOP NOTE! I goofed up when giving the pattern out for those who signed up. The Pattern is $7.00 and if you have not paid for the pattern yet, this needs to be dropped off this month at the Program table! Thank you... Dorene
JULY REMINDER: Don't forget to get working on our July Jellyroll CHallenge. YOU are the program in July, and we are looking for your quilts to show.
Strip Quilts and any others are going to be featured. To enter yours in the July Program, please see the Show & Tell desk for a July form. Bring a few quilts. Let's make this a fantastic program! We will need a write up of the Pattern, when made, for who etc. and we will let you tell us the information in a small 3-5 min. per quilt.
Join us for Ice Cream Sundays and a game of Left, Right Center to try for Red, White and Blue Strips. PLEASE bring 5 strips to play or purchase them for 1.00 each at the meeting.
Membership
We are at 65 members with a few still committed to renewing their membership. If you have any friends who have yet to renew, invite them to renew. Dues are $30 per year or $25 per year if 65 or over. Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting.

NTQF 2024
The theme this year is IT'S A BEACHY LIFE.
Quilt entries are now closed. We should have quilt totals at the June meeting.
We will be selling T-shirts at the meeting, $18 each.
We are also selling tickets to the show. $12 each. Remember, we have 65 tickets that make us 100% of the profit. So any tickets we don’t sell is money thrown away.
Now is the time to sign up for volunteering. There are Guild volunteers. These are all the spots that benefit us: quilt drop off & pick up, setup/take down, bag check, mini auction, scribes, t-shirt sales.
And there are EXPO volunteers: classroom assistant, info desk, greeter, studio spucer, set-up assistant, tear-down assistant, white glove display gallery.
Ann Houpt will be handling volunteers for the FWQG booth.

Quilt Show Booth News
I just wanted to thank everyone for the donations that keep coming in.
Beautiful and useful items have been donated.
Please finish whatever you're working on and get it turned in to me
so I can get things priced and decide how to best display things.
Only 2 meetings left for the gathering of things to sell.
We will all benefit with wonderful programs if we do well in the booth.
Thank you, Ann Houpt, Booth Co-ordinator
Raffle Quilt
Raffle Quilt
Let’s keep selling those tickets for our raffle quilt. This is a big fundraiser for us, and we only do it once every two years.
We also need members to volunteer to take the quilt somewhere and sell tickets. This can be another guild, a shop, a retreat. Anywhere you are willing to go. No one wants to do all of this alone but one meeting: one day, maybe with a friend???? Is there another guild you are a member of? Is there a guild you have wanted to visit? This is the way. Ask one of the board members if you don’t know how to contact someone to visit.
Thank you so much to Shelley Clauss who has agreed to handle the logistics for the quilt. So contact Shelley if you would like to take the quilt somewhere and sell tickets.

Hospitality
Time is passing way too fast. Can it be June already. Summer is just around the corner and so much to do and so little time to get it done. Thank you to everyone that brought refreshments to the May guild meeting. Also thank you to everyone that helped get everything set up and your help in getting things cleaned up after the meeting.

BEES
EMBROIDERY BEE
We continue to rotate our meeting site. New members are welcome
Contact Wanda Edmunds or Sarah Tutt for more information.
FRAYED KNOTS
We meet on the second Tuesday evening of the month at Jonquele's.
TIGHT KNOTS --
Start a BEE
One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!
General Guidelines
- Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
- A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
- Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
- Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
- Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.
Retreat 2025
Shelley has already begun to take reservations for the 2025 retreat, which will be April 3-6, 2025.
Bev Ramsey Fund
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.
Quilts of Valor
Quilts of Valor
Thanks to all the members who have been sewing blocks and entire quilt tops and sewing binding on some of the quilts. All your continued help is greatly appreciated.
Please bring any blocks you have completed to the next meeting. There are a couple of quilt kits that were picked up at the February meeting that need to be turned in. We have backing fabric for them, and I will be happy to quilt them or find another volunteer to do the quilting.
Just a reminder: Recommended size for QOV’s 60”x80” (minimum:55”x65”; maximum: 72”x90”)
Thanks again
for all your hard work!

Lovies
If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.
Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Cook Children's. Cook's is always very grateful for the gifts.
JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)
June Donations
Chris Tomich made three NICU quilts and eight crocheted afghans which were delivered to JPS.
Robbie Sheffy made 40 baby quilts which she brought to the home of Grace Stroud for pick up and delivery to JPS. This represented a year’s worth of sewing for this prolific quilter.
Thanks to both of these ladies. JPS is always so glad to receive donations. Hope we will all be inspired to make a NICU or regular baby quilt to donate.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts
One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.
JPS has requested other items for their patients:
Baby Items:
Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes
Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”
Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long
9 inches – circumference for small
11 inches – circumference for large
CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com
Adult Items:
These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS cancer center and geriatric patients.
Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)
Ostomy bag covers
Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery

Help your Newsletter Editors !!!
After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text or JPGPNG pictures. We can attach pdf documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device in order to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files which contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.
