The ending of a trimester is always so bittersweet. My classes were so amazing again this trimester. I was so proud of all of the Vocal Power students as they performed on Tuesday, giving a glimpse of the beautiful singing I heard every day! The Digital Music Class composers outdid themselves with their Movie Soundtrack compositions. The Music 6 classes performed charming renditions of Lion King and Sound of Music scenes. The eighth grade Keyboard class all exceeded the class standards, playing music far beyond a beginner's level. The end of the trimester also brings the culmination of this year's musical, Mary Poppins Jr.

The Musical Notes about our performances are below. Get out your cameras! We have a video license for families to record our production! The license is just for families, so I cannot film our performances.

The Stage Dance & Costume Club starts Monday, March 11. Get a preview of the musicals being considered for next year. Actors' Studio is back on Tuesday, March 12! 7/8 Singers or Show Choir Rehearsals resume on March 14 and 15. Our song playlists are linked below for those who want to keep singing!

We have some costuming and make-up needs:

All chimney sweeps and Bees need black leggings.

All Bees, Penguins, Bankers, and Park Strollers will be wearing a white or pastel blouse or long sleeve shirt. Whenever possible, please wear dark colored shoes.

All Cast members should have a neutral colored sleeveless t-shirt and shorts to wear under their costumes to protect their modesty during costume changes.

Every cast member playing a female role needs:
A hairbrush, comb, and hair ties

Dress flats - no gym shoes or plush winter boots

No nail polish please (except Miss Andrew)

If you want to wear make-up: A plastic bag with natural toned eyeshadow, eye liner, mascara, blush, and light lipstick.

Every cast member playing a male role needs:
A hairbrush or comb

Dress shoes if possible

Dark pants.

Every item should be labeled with your name!!

Finally, we have some important rules for PERFORMANCES:

☂️Leads are called at 5:30 for the 7:00 performances and 1:30 for the 3:00

Ensemble members are called at 6:00 and 2:00.

The show runs 60 minutes. Students are expected to return home to eat and refresh between performances.

NO FOOD OR CELL PHONES at the performances. Students will be able to use my room phone

if they need to call home. We do not have the resources to clean costumes and the cell phones interfere

with our microphone system. In addition water bottles may only include water. See the attached photos for

examples of students' costumes after a few people ignored the beverage rule last year.

At the end of every performance, all students are responsible for hanging up their costumes and placing

their accessories on their assigned rack. All materials left elsewhere will be held in the costume

bin until the student pays the fine of $5.00 per item. Without their assigned costume, students

will not be allowed back on stage. We have over two hundred and fifty costumes in this show plus

an additional 100 accessories. I sincerely hope to see the costume bin totally empty.

This week the eighth grade leads have repeatedly found costumes worn

by sixth graders left in the foyer girl's bathroom, the hallways, and my classroom.

Please encourage your cast member to hang up their clothing. Starting tomorrow fines will be levied.

📹This year we were able to get permission for parents to record the performance.

The pictures taken today will once again be made available on google drive.

❤️Thank you for your support!!

The show looks and sounds spectacular! I am eagerly anticipating adding the final piece - the audience! See you at the shows! - Mrs. Broeker

🎵Why do we Fundraise for the Musical?🎭

All funding for the musical comes from fundraising, private donations, and ticket sales.

The Musical Money pays for:

The Production Royalty Fee, Video License, and Scripts: $815 for Mary Poppins Jr

Costumes: expected expenditure $2500. Sounds like a lot until you divide that amount by the average number of cast members,120. Yes, we search for bargains, happily accept donations, and visit thrift stores. If I'm desperate, I even sew costumes. This is also why cast members cannot keep their costumes. I repurpose costumes from previous shows.

That being said, sometimes the costumes from a previous show are not useable. For example, the former Mary Poppins were 5' and 5'2" tall, Miss Andrews was 4'8, and Bert was 5'4." The cast is never decided until auditions. At this point, I do not know whether or not I will be able to reuse the leads' costumes.

Props: The materials to make props for the show average $200.

Set Construction and Painting Materials average $450.

Sound Equipment: $14,986.20 New Sound System in compliance with federal regulations and hopefully resolving the feedback issues. Last year, we borrowed most of the mics from Maine East High School. We may still need to purchase new headsets because of breakage.

Lighting Equipment - no plans to purchase this year.

🎵Notes about the Classes🎵 🎵Notes about the Classes🎵

The Vocal Power Students performed a beautiful Vocal Showcase this week to demonstrate what they have learned this trimester. The Digital Music Class created "Movie Soundtracks." They created a Movie storyline, and then composed music expressing three important mood shifts in the movie. The Music 6 class performed their Musical scenes this week! The keyboard students completed their final unit, an exercise in arranging a song. They have been amazing all trimester!
