Week 1
August 14, 2025 - August 15, 2025
Welcome to 2025-2026 school year!
Multnomah Street Elementary
Dear Students, Parents, and Multnomah Community,
Established in 1949, Multnomah has earned the California Pivotal Practice Award, California Distinguished School Award, the Title 1 Achievement Award, the Bravo Award, LACOE Award and Magnet Achievement Award. We will continue to plan, deliver, reflect, and revise our instructional foci in order to ensure that rigorous and relevant (culturally and standards-based) instruction is happening in every single classroom.
I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with our students and working with our teachers and you, our parents and community members. It takes all of us working together to keep our school safe, collaborative, and successful.
Elementary school is where students develop the foundational skills they will use the rest of their educational careers. This is where students first develop and/or build reading, math, speaking, listening, and writing skills. It is also where students cultivate social-emotional skills and develop a mindset for learning that they will carry into adulthood. Let's create that strong unwavering foundation together! Let's have a great and successful school year!
In Partnership,
Principal Melgar
First Day of School🧿
Parents may drop off students at the main gate in the morning between 7:35 am - 8:05 am. For the first day of school ONLY, parents will be allowed to walk their students onto campus. Parents are not allowed to take pictures/recording of other students. Parents may not visit the classrooms. And parents must leave by the instructional bell, which rings at 8:05 am. I strongly recommend saying good bye at the gate and having students walk in themselves to set the routine and also because it makes good- byes a little more difficult when you're inside.
Upon arrival, students will enter campus to teachers waiting with signs. The signs will have the teacher’s name and grade level. Please review with your child who their teacher will be. Bring the letter sent home to support you in finding the correct teacher quickly or write it on a post-it for your child to hold.
For our TK and Kinder students, it would help if you send students to school with a name tag as sometimes they are not able to communicate their names.
School Hours
Our school hours for the 2025-2026 school year will be 8:05 am – 2:28 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. School hours every Tuesday will be 8:05 am – 1:28 pm. On the first day of school, we will be on a minimum day schedule. Please see the times below and plan accordingly.
- Thursday, August 14, 8:05 am -12:53 pm
- Friday, August 15, 8:05 am – 2:28 pm
Students who arrive after 8:05 will be marked tardy.
Do not leave your child outside the school without any supervision.
Valet Services
Valet services will be available before and after school for grades 1-5 students at the main gate.
DROP OFF
- When dropping off, please make sure students only exit from the passenger side and that their backpacks are in the car with them. (Students may not exit into street.)
- DO NOT park in the valet line.
- If your child still needs help getting in and out of the car, please do not use the valet.
- Do not double park and let your child off in the middle of the street.
PICK UP
- When picking up, stay in the valet line and please ensure your dashboard has a sign with your child(ren)’s name(s) on the passenger side. This helps expedite pick up as we will call your child to come out to you.
- If your child still needs help getting in and out of the car, please do not use the valet.
*Do not make a U-Turn in front of the school after you drop off your child.
Proceed down the block. Let’s keep everyone safe!
Dismissal
At dismissal, TK and K teachers will walk students to kindergarten gate at the end of the school block and grades 1-5 teachers will walk students to the flagpole by the main gate.
- If a TK/K parent is late for pick up, they will have to go to the main office to sign out their child. Do not park in the valet line.
- If a 1st - 5th grade parent is late, students will be sent to the after school program and you will be asked to complete a form for “temporary supervision form" by Beyond the Bell.
Beyond the Bell
The Beyond the Bell afterschool program begins on Thursday, August 14th. If you have not received a confirmation phone call from Coach Carly, you may not leave your child after school hours. Please plan accordingly. After your application is received, Coach Carly has to call to confirm that there is space for your child. Thank you for your patience. Their phone number is 818-808-3361.

Please sign and return the following documents asap. If you have completed an emergency card for your child within the last month, you do not need to fill it out again.
