A Few Words From the Principal

Hello MT Families! We've had a busy, full week, wrapping up today with our annual Veterans Day commemoration. Thank you to all our veterans who came today and those who shared their experiences with our students. We had one veteran who was at his 13th MT Veterans Day commemoration - we hope you will join us again next year. Thank you Meredith F. for helping us recognize our veterans with your playing of Taps. This is always a meaningful event and we hope all our veterans felt recognized and appreciated today.

If a student leaves the building, they may not return for a game without a parent/guardian accompanying them. See Page 12 of the Student Handbook regarding after school events.

Here at Belmont, we BElieve in going above & beyond to help our community, so please forward this message to anyone who may also benefit from food assistance.

Attendance Reminders

As cold and flu season ramps up and our lives get busy, please remember to report absences and late arrivals to the school by 8:30 a.m. You may call the school attendance line at 913-422-5854 or use the online absence reporting form. The school will call to follow-up with unreported absences after 8:30. Students arriving tardy after 7:55 must enter through the front office doors (you are not required to escort late students inside, but if your student is late due to an appointment, please report it to the office in advance so their attendance is appropriately marked).

Students are allowed ten (10) days of excused absences per school year without an accompanying doctor’s note. (This includes illnesses, appointments, and “parent request” absences, which should be coordinated with the school in advance). Absences in excess of ten (10) without accompanying documentation will be considered unexcused. Missing a substantial portion of a day (three (3) or more class periods) shall be considered one "day."

You are not required to notify the office in advance if you will be checking a student out during the school day for an appointment. Please have your ID ready at the door, state your student's name and indicate you are checking them out, and complete the student check out inside and we will call your student from class at that time. Students will only be released to parent/guardians or emergency contacts listed in Skyward unless coordinated in advance with the school.

6th South Science

This week, students investigated matter to observe how air has mass by weighing balloons inflated and deflated. They also tried to visualize how tiny atoms are by trying to cut a piece of aluminum foil to the size of an atom by cutting their piece in half as many times as they could safely. They failed at that! To cut the foil that small would take 1.11×10^22 cuts!

7th Trailblazers Pathways

Students are trying to be "Survivors" by practicing their communication and collaboration skills to complete challenges. The challenge for the day was for one team member to communicate with the other team members to recreate a picture. This was made more challenging when they were not able to use words.
