Student Attendance at Games
A reminder for parents & students - if a student is attending a game after school, they may stay after the bell and will be supervised by a staff member until the game begins. If a student leaves the building, they may not return for a game without a parent/guardian accompanying them. See Page 12 of the Student Handbook regarding after school events.
WIN Priority Days Next Week
Each week students are given the opportunity to receive extra help during WIN in different prioritized areas. Students will receive a pass from their teacher in order to travel to that classroom during WIN. Encourage your student to take advantage of this time.

Attendance Reminders
As cold and flu season ramps up and our lives get busy, please remember to report absences and late arrivals to the school by 8:30 a.m. You may call the school attendance line at 913-422-5854 or use the online absence reporting form. The school will call to follow-up with unreported absences after 8:30. Students arriving tardy after 7:55 must enter through the front office doors (you are not required to escort late students inside, but if your student is late due to an appointment, please report it to the office in advance so their attendance is appropriately marked).
Students are allowed ten (10) days of excused absences per school year without an accompanying doctor’s note. (This includes illnesses, appointments, and “parent request” absences, which should be coordinated with the school in advance). Absences in excess of ten (10) without accompanying documentation will be considered unexcused. Missing a substantial portion of a day (three (3) or more class periods) shall be considered one "day."
You are not required to notify the office in advance if you will be checking a student out during the school day for an appointment. Please have your ID ready at the door, state your student's name and indicate you are checking them out, and complete the student check out inside and we will call your student from class at that time. Students will only be released to parent/guardians or emergency contacts listed in Skyward unless coordinated in advance with the school.
Good Things at MTMS
Information for our musical this year, Matilda Jr., is available on the website! See Ms. Boomgaarden (Room 207) for any questions (that weren't answered by the information online) and to pick up an audition packet!
6th South Science
This week, students investigated matter to observe how air has mass by weighing balloons inflated and deflated. They also tried to visualize how tiny atoms are by trying to cut a piece of aluminum foil to the size of an atom by cutting their piece in half as many times as they could safely. They failed at that! To cut the foil that small would take 1.11×10^22 cuts!
