DES Updates

Here are a couple of updates as we head into week seven:

  • Breakfast and Lunch Lines
    • With the extra meals being served due to district-wide free breakfast and lunch, our kitchen and cafeteria staff have been hard at work to cut down on the amount of time students spend in line. Last week we tweaked lunch and recess times to provide more minutes in the cafeteria.
    • This week we will add another protocol that we hope will shave off a few more minutes spent in line. Students will have ID cards that they will deposit in a basket as they exit the line instead of waiting for staff to look them up in the computer.
    • One thing to keep in mind is that even if students do not finish their lunch by the end of their lunch period, we do have extra lunch tables for students to stay and finish.
    • We are very proud of the way students have continued to show respect and make wise choices as they wait in line for meals! Keep up the good work, kiddos!
  • Courageous Classroom: Skill of the Week
    • We are looking to supplement our current Character Traits program with a skill of the week program. This provides lessons and activities for teachers to share during daily morning meetings to support students with social, emotional and behavior skills. Our staff and the Viking Advisory Team have both been looking the information over and providing feedback.
    • Mrs. Love will share information on what this skill of the week program is at the board meeting on Monday evening. The board will not be voting on the purchase of this program at this time, but will be presented with information and have additional time to look into the program.

PBIS News

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. Our staff is trained to look for opportunities to celebrate the positive things that students do each day. We teach students what the expectations are for every area of the building so that they enter a safe and predictable environment. We expect our students to ROW Like Vikings no matter where they are at DES. ROW stands for Respect, Ownership and Wise Choices. Students will earn ROW tickets when they are caught showing these positive behaviors and their tickets can earn them fun incentives throughout the school year.

Congratulations to this week's ROW Ticket Classroom Winners! (Pictured above)

Our Character Trait of the Month is Responsibility. Help us reinforce this trait at home this month!

Stay Connected!

If you are not already receiving phone, text and/or email alerts, please contact our DES office to be sure we have your correct contact information listed within our system. These alerts can be for regular weekly communication, but can also be for building or district emergencies or updates.

If you are on social media, please consider following our Dundee Elementary Facebook Page. Photos, updates and weekly newsletters are posted there.

Lastly, if you haven't already connected with your student's teacher on Bloomz, please consider doing so. Bloomz is the main form of communication that teachers use to interact with families. If you aren't sure how to get connected, please contact your student's teacher or the office and we'd be happy to help!

Handle With Care

Handle with Care is a system in which our staff can be aware that your child or family may be experiencing a hardship outside of school that may impact their day at school. By notifying the school principal, we can be sure that those who come in contact with your child throughout the day handles them with extra understanding and TLC. You do not have to provide us with any details at all unless you wish to do so. You can simply send an email that states: Handle with Care with your child's name. Information can be sent to Mrs. Love or Mr. Briggs on Bloomz or via school email at Shana.love@dundeeschools.org or jaybriggs@dundeeschools.org.
