Room 3 Persuasive Writing
Art by Room 13 & 14
Room 13 and 14 students have been working hard to create a collaborative artwork for Matariki called ‘Kotahitanga’. The artwork celebrates unity and togetherness, representing how our earth, forests, waterways, and skies are all interconnected. Through this piece, students explored the importance of working together and recognising the connections between all living things. This special artwork will be on display to view as part of the Matariki Exhibition at Reyburn House Gallery opening the 16th June.
Book Battle 2026
Book Battle by Hayden Boylan
On Friday the 5th of June two teams of year 5/6s went to ELIM Christian Center for a Book battle. Book battle is a competition where you read books before the competition and they ask you questions about the books we pre-read. There were 3 other rounds that they made up, hats, meow, and randomness. Maungatapere Team 1 came 5th and Team 2 came 34th. I really enjoyed it and hope that I can compete in Book Battle next year.
Book Battle by Hayden Vollenhoven
Last week on Friday the 4th of June my team and I went to the Book battle in town. The Book Battle is a reading contest where you read these particular books and then you answer questions about them. The first category was I Survived The Japanese Tsunami and I Survived The Sinking Of The Titanic were both combined into one category so there were 5 questions from each book. The second category was from the book The Secret Staircase. What was really cool about that, was the author of The Secret Staircase came in to read the questions, and it was fun seeing her. The next round was called meow and that was about any book that has something to do with cats. The fourth category was about the book Take Me To Your Leader. After that round they drew some spot prizes but unfortunately no one from our school got any prizes. Round 5 was my favourite as it was about The One An Only Ivan and it was my favourite book. There were a few more rounds after that. We came 5th out of around 60 other schools, which we were thrilled about. It was a great experience for us and I hope I can do it again next year!

Maths Buddy
Last year, a large number of our school community participated in an online maths programme called Maths Buddy. It is a programme to use for homework and to consolidate learning that is happening at school. Its availability, curriculum focus, and presentation provide immediate, independent, and encouraging feedback. The programme does not replace classroom teaching; rather, it offers children the opportunity to practise taught concepts with support at home.
The link between parents and teachers to support your child’s learning is also very important. Maths Buddy could be used in a variety of ways:
- As part of the daily maths programme within the class, and/or
- As part of the class homework programme.
- Independent of school as a home support programme.
Please discuss with your child’s teacher how they intend to use the programme this year.
If you have not already done so, you can explore the programme at www.mathsbuddy.co.nz.
To continue using the site please purchase your students 2026 subscription here
An individual login will be promptly given to your child, giving them access to the entire Maths Buddy programme and its improvements until the end of January 2027.
Those who have already brought the 2026 subscription will receive the login by Monday 23 March.
Kind regards.
