Mrs. Coate is looking for a Steele Family member that would be available in person or virtually for a short interview that could be shown to the students. Please let her know by emailing kcoate@galesburg205.org. The interview would need to take place this week so that we can show it to the students next week.

In addition, we would like to recognize all family members that are serving or have served in the armed service for Veterans' Day. Please send in a photo or the person serving with the following information: branch of armed service, years served, and relation to Steele School. Photos that have been previously submitted will be used again. Photos are due Friday, November 8th.

19 Ways to Help Elementary Students Self-Regulate 19 Ways to Help Elementary Students Self-Regulate

School is all about giving students the skills they need to succeed. That certainly applies to reading, writing, and math, but students also need the fundamental skill of self-regulation. These tips can easily be used at home too when emotions are big and children are having trouble managing their feelings.

“I found that thinking about behavior objectively—as a skill to be taught rather than simply as good or bad—was immensely helpful in my ability to guide children in learning to control their behavior,” ...........

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.

We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.

4 = Exceeding State and District Standards

3 = Meeting State and District Standards

2 = Approaching State and District Standards

1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
