Pi Day at Anthony
Hello Everyone!
We are excited to announce our annual Pi-Bee will return on March 13th, 2026. Each math class will go to the auditorium on this day and every student will have an opportunity to recite as many digits of pi as they have memorized. Your reward for taking the risk?! Pie! If you’re unable to eat pie due to Ramadan, we will have take home treats available for you so that you don’t miss out on the action!
Parents: If you’d like to sign up to volunteer or to bring in pies, please scan the QR code to go to our sign up genius website. It will also be sent via School Messenger to your email inbox, in case that’s easier.

The Anthony Math Teachers
6th Grade Explore Classes
As part of their rotation classes, 6th graders take a class called Explore. This is a pretty new class. This is only the second year, and it changes a little bit every quarter as we try new ideas. Because it focuses on story writing, here is a story about story writing class!
Riley listened to the Advisory teacher with dismay. He had just gotten used to French, and now he was going to have to go to a class called Explore. Like what even was that?
At lunch, he grumbled to his friend, Quinn. “You had that class last quarter, right? What do you do in it?”
Quinn smiled. “Actually, it was pretty fun. We got to work on one long story for the whole quarter. I wrote mine about a guy who finds himself on an alien planet.”
“Wait,” Riley said. “You can write about anything?”
“Yep.”
“I don’t think I can finish a whole story in a quarter,” Riley said, worried.
“Oh, as long as you are working on it, it is OK. I have kept working on mine, even though I am not in the class anymore.” Quinn looked a little shy. “I really like the story I created.”
“Ok, this is starting to sound pretty fun. What else do you do?”
“We learned a vocabulary word every day. We had these booklets where we learned a word every day and then we got to share little stories using that word. I wrote all my examples about axolotls. It was pretty fun listening to everyone’s ideas.”
Quinn paused, “Oh, yeah. We used the Design Cycle like we did in the class where we made things out of cardboard.”
Riley interrupted, “I remember that- researching ideas, planning, executing, and then reflecting.”
Quinn nodded. “Yeah. It’s kind of the same. We talked about what made good stories, then we did a bunch of planning sheets, like planning the characters and conflicts. Then we spent time writing and doing some editing. Ms. B called it “content editing.” It was about ideas, more than stuff like commas. At the end, we designed a cover for our book and everyone got to look at it.”
“Alright,” Riley said. “I think you’ve convinced me. I can’t wait for that class to start!”
